Hi All
*
It's been a while since I've been on.
*
Who do you guys use for your webhosting? I am now forced to look for a new host*due to*a very unexpected email from my current host this evening and*would appreciate your opinions on the company you use. I will be looking to host two separate domains and websites.
*
Payment was due for the renewal of my hosting account on 22nd Aug. I had no notification of this, no invoice sent for renewal which you would expect from a professional company. I received an email on 31st Aug to advise of account being overdue and that I had 7 days to pay.
*
Fine I thought. I get paid the next Friday so I will pay then, within 7 days. Today was my 6th day and I received an email this morning saying my account was on hold and my website was down. I enquired why an invoice*had not been*sent. Here is the rest of the email conversation so you can see how it ends. It is appalling customer service.
*
Thanks
*
Sam

Subject: your hosting account

Hi Sam,

As of this morning I’ve had to put your web site onto our holding page because you still haven’t paid the hosting fee due since 22/08/2007.

If you would like to keep your account open, please send a payment of £20 to this pay pal address: removed
Prompt payment will ensure your site does not get deleted.

Regards,

Hi Removed
There was no notice given in August that payment was due and no invoice has been received. If you can invoice me I will make the required payment. As you do not send notification / invoice how do you expect customers to make the required payment on time. I would also appreciate it if you would put my website back online ASAP.

Hi Sam,

You’ve been notified twice via email. To be honest with you I don’t really want your custom anymore. You can have 2 weeks web space, after this period I will delete your account. Please take appropriate measures (download your site via FTP) and find yourself a new host.

I’ve taken your site off the holding page. It may take a few hours before you see it again.

Please would you give me a reason why you don’t want my custom anymore. I know what money you make from me is virtually nothing, other than that what’s the problem. I only received the notification last week. I did not receive anything on 22nd August. In the email below you said I had 7 days to make the payment, today is Thursday so I make that my 6th day. I have to say I am appalled by you lack of customer service.

I would also like to request a refund of the £20 I paid on 26th Feb 07 to have spam filtering put onto my account which has never worked, despite several requests for it to be looked at.

For hosting I use a member here on the forum: Marc J. I wouldn't use anyone else, the service is outstanding. Check out DJbids...his hosting services are listed on there, alternatively send him a PM. You won't regret it.

www.djbids.co.uk/auctiondetails.php?itemname=1-Months-Web-Hosting&id=258

By the sounds of it a little more than what you were paying, but (really rather good) advanced spam filtering and virus protection is included for all mailboxes and there's room for a little expansion with things like PHP / 2 MySQL databases included in the price...use them for a Gallery / FAQ / whatever you like....

Also all accounts are automatically renewed and an invoice sent on the renewal date with 30 days credit - so things like what just happened, can't, and you can concentrate on other things :)

EDIT: Oops, Shaun beat me to it :beer1: :beer1:

Pulse,

I can also highly recommend Marc J.

He does my hosting as well, and the service couldn't be better.

10 out of 10.

I run a number of sites, not just DJ related, and previously have used Weycrest and Daily without any hassles - cheap, cheerful and reasonably good customer service - ie. they send reminders, answer the phone, respond to emails within an acceptable time.

However since joining the forum I've 'bumped into' Marc a few times and know that he's a knowledgeable and decent fellow so if I was looking for a new host I'd probably give him a try.

(invoice is in the post :beer1: )

Thanks for the advice guys, after all the recomendations for Marc I have asked him to set me up a hosting account.

Cheers

I have longstanding experience of two webhosting co's.

First is oneandone. Used them since they first hit the UK (8years or so?). Never had a problem, and their email is very reliable (better than BT who I use as an ISP and maintain an email address with, but I have no complaints with BT as an ISP). Oneandone, for such an enormous company are impressive. Easy admin through control panel and regularly emailed PDF invoices. You can get to talk to a human if you want to and they are helpful when you do.

Second is Demon. Used them at work for ages. Just transferred a hosting only package to hosting +ISP. They advertise 24/7 customer support, so I tested them at 10:30 one evening when I was transferring the company website - and talked with a techie who had all the answers. super impressed.

Worth paying a few £££s for good service IMHO.

I've got a couple of sites (other than my mobile disco site), I use Mr Site, alot of limitation, no PHP, mysql etc, but you can upload/download with FTP. This is £30 per year

I also have 1 & 1 too. just the beginner which is the same amount, approximately.

what you get from using a cheap and tacky web host really.. happens all the time with people!

I currently use SupaNames.com.. which i reccomend fully.. specially as my brother was the MD untill he sold it to Pipex last year.. anyway.. point being..

SupaNames still provide a great service.. and so do Pipex's other hosting companies.. such as 123reg & donhost.
