Actually though this got me thinking...
... about 3 or 4 years ago I was booked by a corporate for a product launch. As well as the disco there was a meal, presentations, a band and a stand-up comedian. If you discount the CD that I was playing whilst they were scoffing, and the fact they were using my mics/PA for their presentations, I ended up actually playing disco music for about 20 minutes max right at the end :) And got paid about 50% more than your average private function.

I played a swing night.....i must have played 1.5hrs in total.
Took more time to set up and take down then play......the Swing band were good though.
Payed top dollar for that as well!

I did a corporate gig a few years ago in London and they had an Elvis impersonator and band, and I ended up playing for 20 mins.
sorry to change the subject but how much would you charge for somthing like this???

If you look at my pricing structure for the three packages I offer, all of them have a defined start and end time included in the base price - ie. 7:30 til Midnight.
If the customer wants to start AFTER 7:30 that's fine.
If they want to finish BEFORE midnight, that's fine.
If they want to start BEFORE 7:30 they pay more.
If they want to finish AFTER midnight they pay more.
So the simple answer to the question is - same as a normal night.
If they declare upfront that I'm only actually going to be needed for half an hour, say, then I might give them a token discount but not if I need to be there all night anyway sitting on my arris going stir crazy.

My set prices have maximum times (up to 5 hours) but no minimum times.
If I was booked for a short gig, I wouldn't give much of a discount, simply because the bulk of my fee covers the hard physical work of humping in & setting up all the gear...
...which is exactly the same whether the gig is 1 hour or 6 hours.

Shortest gig i was ever booked for was 6 records
Cut a long story short the venue had their own DJ and refused to let the B+G book their own DJ - me. But the venue DJ did agree to let me play the 6 special requests the bride and groom had made as he simply didnt have them. A very short but profitable night for me :)

I've just remembered something.
My shortest gig ended before It even started.
Some people were having some kind of sports day, and I was booked to do a disco for them afterwards, so I set up in a building next to the sports field.
An hour later, I'd just finished setting up & done the sound check when the organizer came in and told me that they had finished their sports, but nobody had told them about the disco - so they had all gone home, and therefore I wouldn't be needed.
He was very apologetic & handed me the cheque, so I packed away & went home.
If only he'd appeared BEFORE I'd finished setting up.
Oh well, at least I got paid for a gig I didn't even do!
