I have stood by it for years as an essential item
UV lighting
currently I have a stand alone 4ft tube but am looking at getting the more expensive bulb lamps
What do you use if at all or do you feel its to retro even with the new DMX lamps able to produce UV blue now

I have always used it and its even more prominent now in my new "not pop your retina" lighting show i have 2x 2ft tubes which i find more versatile than a single 4ft .. ive seen the lamp ones but have heard stories of exploding lamps etc so stuck with the tubes.

Carry a 3' tube but rarely use it.
70s/80s nights it usually comes out of the van.

I've never used it before, but I've been considering getting a UV tube for a while now.

I always use UV. Its a classic effect and people still love it. Great value light!
I use a standard 4ft job.
The only problem is when the kids get on the floor and suddenly everyone can see their underwear. I have had to turn it off quick as it can be a bit embarrasing!

How can it allow you to see underwear?
I thought we were talking about UV lights, not x-ray specs! :p

Lol it allows anyone with white or light coloured undergarments to become visable through outer clothes.

Ahhhhhh, thanks for explaining it, spin.
Looks like my x-ray specs were a waste of money, then!
Guess I'll put them on DJ bids!

A quick tip with UV lights......if you have a similar tube, fill with tonic water (the stuff meant for gin) and shine near it......hey presto......you now have two effects!
Place an air filter .....the type you use for fish tanks...in as well.....another affect!!
Place coloured oil in it......another effect!!

I sometimes use the uv lights but it all depends on the occasion and if the customer wants one or not.

Also, if you have a similar tube, fill with vodka.
Then, if you have a bad gig, pour the contents down your throat.

Yep, Quinine is what makes the tonic water blue-ish in certain lights and pics up the UV nicely, also good if you're having an aneurysm ;)

My personal opinion on UV is that there is no place for it in a modern mobile disco (just like light screens) and that it looks very Smashie and Nicey (just like light screens).
I hope this does not offend anyone who uses UV or light screens, it is just my personal opinion.

I disagree - I think it's a simple and effective thing to use.
The only reason I don't use UV is because I haven't got room anymore.

I like UV, but I don't like seeing random tubes hanging from rigs etc.
If you're going to UV, in my opinion you should do it properly, what I mean by this, make sure an entire area (or room) is UV. As you'll read on a thread somewhere we kitted out entire place with UV, and didn't use many other lights, and didn't use them much either.
It was a great effect because the tubes were all over the venue. Obviously this is harder to do when you've got to the do the rest of the disco etc, we wern't DJing, as it was a lighting "solution" job :).

Also used UV hanging down from my deck stand the other week in a small marquee. 2x4ft tubes, worked well, but only because of the size of the marquee.
Symetry is the key to any good design.

i did a disco for my girlfriends family and a few adults were wearing white underwear. but then they were wearing thin clothing. but they were attractive anyway. :o
