Have to say, right now November is lookiing Pants. September and October full, December OK (but I choose to do less due to day job commitments).

I do mostly weddings, so I'm out at least once each weekend from about April until September. Apart from that, I get very little stuff for the rest of the year, apart from the odd off-season wedding and a birthday or two.

All my December gigs comes as agency work through a friend of mine, as my own advertising is virtually all on wedding directory sites, as that is my main market. He also gives me work at other times to fill in some of the gaps.

The pay is toilet, but it gets me out.

As far as my own bookings go, I now have 4 weekends off...although that's something I'd planned for a specific reason. Next booking - mid October!

:)

My Slack time is now.

Since moving back from Northern Ireland (last month) I've had one gig and only have one more booked......for the rest of the year, starting to get a bit worried!

Been getting a few enquirys but nobody seems to want to take the plunge.

Being new in my area, I had no idea when the slack period was, cus when i was in cornwall everything died at the end of the tourist season, so i booked a holiday for mid september.....big mistake......the week i'm away i could have booked myself out several times. November is looking good, but December is still a worry at the mo.

Good news is December's close to being fully booked :)

So if you are booked up.....why do you keep a second job??
No dig....just would like to know....i'm considering a part time job on the basis i am busy most of the time with enquires, bit's and bob's...

Just a question...:)

Well, to get even close to the wage I earn from the day job, I'd need top paying gigs Thursday, Friday AND Saturday every week 52 weeks a year to even come close.

Would love to, but it's going to take a little more work and planning!

As a footnote to my previous post, things seem to be suddenly looking good for next year.

Compared to an average week, In the last week my bookings are up by 800%!

No idea why, though...it's just gone mad. Will probably settle down soon.

So how many would you be doing then? and instead of what number?

Matt, just noticed in the paper that Public Sector workers are asking for 28 days holiday--crikey I used to get 14 days when I started work down a coalmine--no not really--but seriously this means an hourly pay rise increase for those workers.

Paid the same for less work.

Going to cost employers millions etc.and the cost of our public services.

An ideal opportunity for you to put up DJ prices :D :D :D

indeed it is really it took me probably 6 years from scratch to be getting recommendations and regular repeat bookings ive been in derby for 4 now and its getting better each year for the first two years i relied heavily still on contacts over in lincs .

i learned from scratch making my own mistakes along the way never had the opportunity to go out and see another disco ...still havent lol or see at close hand how another dj did things.

it does take a long time to become good at anything .

i really spent 5 years making it up as i went along and with no outside imput and really being quite naff as people know from the rig pix on the gallery pages here and my recent discussions on here im constantly getting rid of the old ideals i had and adopting new ones , changing the show and my approach to selling what i do to people in the last 12 months since i joined here im earning more money than i ever did by alot and also offering alot better service than ever .

It took a couple of years (back in the old days) for us to get enough bookings to even break even. About 7 or 8 to get to the point where I gould give up the day job to concentrate on the business full time.

4 years is still early for any business, it takes a lot of effort to get your name out there to the extent that you are out every weekend.
