i've been reading into search engine optimisation and targeting keywords in the content, but all i know is basics, does anyone have any good tips on how to get your website further up the rankings?

also admin, would i be able to exchange link with the site? i've read little bits about exchanging links with sites of similar content is a good way.

pay per click advertising, can anyone shed any light on that?

meta tags as well?

as i say my knowledge is limited any help would really be appreciated guys.

Site looks good, although I haven't trawled through it.

You can improve your search engine ranking by submitting your site to directories. There is a service (they advertise on this forum) and they submit to over 700 directories for you. The cost is very good, and a few people on here have had very good results.

The MDD probably won't link-exchange with you. Although you can add your site into the directory, which will help boost your rank, to a degree. If you like back to the site, im pretty sure that helps you too.... I do (have a look at the footer of my web site).

Pay per click advertising: This is basically where you pre-pay for a set number of clicks on a banner or web link on someone else's web site. You send them your banner/text (or other) and you would then (for example) buy 10,000 clicks. The site your advertising on would then keep a record of how many people have clicked on your banner, and after the 10,000 had been used you would have to buy more. So, you pay (in my example) for 10,000 people (or clicks) on your link/banner to your site. I hope that makes sense.

With meta tags, as you have probably worked out they sit in the top of most HTML pages. Meta tags used to (and are still used by some search engines) to help rank you in search engines. If you set your meta tags to "mobile, disco, london, professional, entertainment" then if someone searched for "professional disco in london" the search engine would know (by looking at your meta tags) that you're site would be useful to the user searching for a disco in london. Search engines such as google don't look at meta tags anymore (i dont think anyway) because they can be unreliable (as after all, they are set by the web designer/webmaster and could be abused to get better rankings, when perhaps they shouldn't [in some cases]).

I hope this all makes sense, and is at least readable. Hope it helps. ;)

For pay-per-click you're far better off with a well managed Google Adwords campaign - you can target it right down to a 30 mile radius of you if you like, and so aren't paying for click by people 200 miles away who were unlikely to book you anyway....

Meta tags are sooooo 90's :D Content is king these days, relevant page titles and headings, and copy text which contains the keywords and phrases you want to be found by without repeating them too much and without any insane rambling.

Don't spam keywords anywhere, especially not as a huge list of words against an identical (or very close) coloured background.

Relevant reciprocal links will also help your search engine placement.

The slide thingy on your Equipment and Gallery pages is nasty...sorry!

marc, i'm not too fussed on the slideshow myself, but i don't know how to create one, i'm reading up on how to do..with regards to websites, marketing etc. hopefuly in a few months i'll have a bit more knowledge.

i do like the sound of google adwords though, i'll have to lok into that.
