Very last minute gig tonight (Sunday)

Had a phone call from my agent this evening at 8pm. The hotel had forgot to book a DJ for wedding as they thought the B&G were booking their own and the B&G thought the hotel were booking through the agency.

Anyway, hotel is only down the road so I was there for 8.30. Had an army of hotel staff to help me unload the trailer. I had all my gear in the room in under 5 minutes! Setup and ready for first dance at 9pm. Just had to chuck the rig together so cables were a mess which I hated.

Then it all kicked off outside, big fight and police called in. Several of the wedding guests arrested. Of course the bride was in bits and done a vanishing act for half an hour.

Finaly done the first dance at 10pm. No one was really in the mood after that. At about 11.30 another fight kicked off, no police this time though.

What a night, it really dragged on and didnt finish till 1am. I can't understand people like that, why the hell do you kick off at a wedding of all places.

Oh, and not even a thank you from the B&G for dropping my plans for this evening for them. Hotel could not have thanked me enouth though abd free drinks all night:)

Sorry about my poor spelling, it's 2.30am and my brains not working!:) Off to bed, good night!

people kick off at any place for 2 main reasons ......... total lack of respect for anything else except their own ego and ........... booze.

ive always said at weddings particularly you are asking about 100 people who probably in this day and age dont really like each other (seems to be the case with more broken families about) to not only stand in the same room as each other for the whole day ..... but look like they are enjoying themselves too!!!

on the other side my wedding on sat ........ they had a band on supposed to start at 7pm

7.01pm ..... they turn up spend an hour setting up and sound checking in the middle of the dancefloor so no point in me doing much ....

8.01pm they disappear to the bar in their sweaty jeans and t shirts .....

8.30pm they start .... still in their fore mentioned attire :eek: :eek:

do the first hour in fairness i enjoyed them , then at 9.30pm i started no word of a lie by 10pm there was 15 people left 4 of them being b and g and her mum and dad, so 11 guests left ......

had to soldier on until midnight with them all drinking pots of tea????? will to live exit stage left .... what im getting at is ...

its just my opinion but if you are invited to someones special occasion i just believe you should at least try and create an atmosphere for them and give your friends the evening/day that you would like yourself ..... or am i suffering from dragonsjustanicemanagainitis???? if you dont want to go ..... dont go but dont go and just sit looking like you are being tortured all night !!!

no body asked for anything except one bloke who had his 2 requests played before he got back to his seat.

if i go to a function i will dance and at least try and enjoy myself for the sake of the person that invited me and if the music isnt my cup of tea ...... its only 4 hours of my life for the happiness of someone else so who am i to be a selfish :Censored: and sit with a face like a trout also i may ask for some music i do like to dance to.

ok some crowds are not "dancey" crowds but to leave mega early is just rude. I think this sort of night can be judged by the number of children who walk through the door at the start ..... "babysitter" nooooooo then we have no real excuse to leave early which we fully intend to do and will just look like real inconsiderate meanies to our friends.

My wedding was spoilt with a total Richard Head....you know one person who happens to tag along. I knew this guy through a female friend...the guy was a donkeys behind!... Who she was seeing.

Anyway invites went out and the girl was invited to the evening function as he was invited as I felt it only fair, even hough we talked about this.... I gave strict instructions to the best man to monitor the idiot she was with...to be fair he did a good job up to a point.
At the end of the night....you know who's had too much beer. Best man does his best to escort him out....when the immortal words....'You better leave...' all hell breaks loose......glasses, windows and table go.

Old plod called.....me and the best man try (in a polite way) to escort him off the premises as he goes towards the door he them smashes another window this time cutting himself badly....enter boy's in blue, and ambulance called.
He goes to hospital with plod....we are left to clear up mess.

Not only that but we have to return the next day to pick up bit's and bobs.....which I had to do on my own......

I've met the guy once after that.....gave him a piece of my mind.

indeed i do ...... mine on sat was the last of my old pricing structure booked about 18 months ago could tell what sort of do it was .... everyone marveling at the lovely hotel ............... that me and the missus had said was atotal dive that afternoon while setting up , signs all over the car park that the drains beneath were structurally unsound, tennis court .......with no side mesh anymore and a good 3ft of coverage grass wise..

i know you get morons whatever you charge really i do .... but all my experience says the more you charge .......the less this sort of thing happens. and no ive found i dont get less work ...................

I think if you get your marketing right and your offering a good product (some) people are more comfortable with higher cost on the basis that its worth having rather than a cheapo quote.

i once got a call from some one who were desprate for a disco and the that i had booked that night had canclled in the afternoon but the lady had popped around and gave me the full money for the cancellation and gave an extra £20 for my troubles so that was £150 in my pocket
the lady on the phone had been let down and when i was about to quote hetr a price she jumped in and said is £250 ok i said yes was set up by 8 and finished at 12
