Just when you thought it was all going OK.

My ISP switch over has just happened. Now with Orange. All worked well, wired connection seems faster and all OK, so I thought!

I have my main using Visa Mail, all set up, working fine with old ISP, web and email hosted by richies company (Your Internet Store).

I can recieve mail with no problems, however when I try to send mail from any account I get:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: Rhod Gilbert', Account: 'Matthew - Revelation Roadshow', Server: 'smtp.yourinternetstore.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Please check your SMTP server is set to smtp.orangehome.co.uk. Further help is available at http://help.orange.co.uk/sessionBegin.do?solutionId=kb4473', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F

I have emailed Richie, but anyone got any idea what's happened?

Please remember, that all the setting still seem to point to my business email and not an orange email account.

Orange does not allow the use of third party smtp servers, it blocks them.

You just need to configure your email client to send emails via smtp.orangehome.co.uk instead of smtp.yourinternetstore.co.uk.

Not sure what you mean by Visa Mail? Is that the email programme you use?

Now that sounds horribly complicated!

How do I do that and will it still mean my "business" email addresses work as they did?

As for mail - I believe it's the Vista version of Outlook Express

go to your mail account, change the outbound smtp to orange not your internet store
under tools email accounts if useing outlook
keep inbound pop3 as is

Everything should work as it did before. You may have "use authentication" turned on with the myinternetstore server but you won't need it with the Orange account.

Incoming emails come via the pop or pop3 server so won't be affected.

Unless a client looks at the properties of a sent email, they won't notice any difference.

If your web site email has its own pop3 and smtp, then you should use these instead of the orange smtp and your internet store pop3.
my pop3 for instance is mail.thamesvalleydiscos.co.uk and smtp is smtp.thamesvalleydiscos.co.uk
even though my isp is Tiscali.

No worries now, all sorted by popping in the Orange SMTP bit as suggested.

To be honest, it's all way over my head. Initial settings were as told by Richie at Your internet store when we set it all up and I guess he knows what he's doing.

Any more problems I'll be back.

Orange block third party SMTP servers to prevent people setting up their own one and using it to spam. I used to be with Orange and that is one of the reasons why I moved to another provider.

Edit: Not because i wanted to spam but because I wanted to use TP SMTP servers :)

Yes as long as they are going out OK then it will be fine.
