If you take a booking, do you consider it a booking at that point or only after a contract/booking form is returned.
Would you accept another booking after accepting a gig if you had not received a deposit?
How much time is reasonable to give the first client before accepting the second?
i would say if its all agreed on the phone then its a booking. when you get the signed paperwork back then its a signed deal.
i would say up to 10 days just to be on the safe side ( mail could be slow???)
my opinion anyway

I officially hold provisional bookings for 14 days, but if people sound reasonable and say they intend to book I've been known to hold them for longer.
People that enquire once then disappear after receiving a quote I don't consider to be a booking at all, although I do make a note of their details and possibly chase them up later on.

ok a booking for me is only confirmed when a contract has been returned signed with a deposit sorry non refundable booking fee , i give people 14 days in which to do that from the date of postage which is noted. i will call the person after a week to make sure it got there,
if after 14 days i have not recieved anything I will call the person again to see if they still wish to book , if i cant get hold of them to be honest thats it if another booking comes in it is taken ,
if i have a booking comes in and i have a non confirmed booking that day i will outline this to the client , i will tell them the other booking has x days left to reply and if they wish to wait that time to see if it is confirmed that is upto them ....... otherwise they get tonys number :D :D :D
hope that helps.

1) Not until the booking form is returned.
2) Yes unless 1 has been done......
3) 1 week.
If i take a booking i provisionally hold that slot until payment / deposit is made. if someone else asks for that slot, i give first chance to first enquiry but also try and line up a replacement, so everones happy..........my head hurts.........:D
Note = Cheer's Dave........i try and do the same....:)

Reason i ask is i have a few forms/deposits i'm waiting on, with other potential customers requiring the same date.
10-14 days seems fair though.

Once we have the contract & deposit, which they have 7 days to return.
Admitedly having several DJs the second part of your question doesn't really come into play with us.

Most of my booking requests come via email.
I send them a booking form in the post with the t & c, and they have 14 days to return it with their deposit.
90% of them do this.
With about 1 booking in 10, I don't get the booking form & deposit back in time, in which case I just send a reminder letter.
I would not accept another booking until I'd heard from them & found out whether or not they wanted to go ahead with their booking.

It's "provisional" in the diary for 10 days max. If another enquiry for the same date comes in the meantime, I give the original requestor first refusal.
No form & booking fee within 14 days and I'll give them a gentle reminder and put the date back as "available" then it's first come first served.
If it's a repeat customer I'll probably give them a bit more leeway.
Never had to send anyone's booking fee back so it must work ;)

Never turn customers away.
Yes its booked on the spot and we always honour the booking BUT if we get another enquiry a few days later we use that as a reason to phone the customer and say--did you get the paperwork --yes--good please send the nrd ( well remembered Dave :D ) in the next day or so because we have ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHO WANTS THAT DATE.
We tell the new enquirer we can sort it out ---because we always pass the job to an excellent Professional Contact if we cant do it OR for a Disco people on here.
Ater 14 days we call and say---if we dont get your Contract and nrd we wont be able to hold the date for you.
If its a "hot" date especially Saturdays for me in the Barn Dance season from May to September may well chase up after 7 days.
We cant afford to deal with time wasters.
