Re-open the pat test thread It was getting interesting. Especially with the document put up about frequencies. I dont come on as often as I use to but feel as much as you guys, may feel that we are flogging a dead horse.
We really need to start hammering this issue very hard to finally set time limits for everything at one std rate say a year or 2 at max. I agree it may show the professionals from the rest
But as I have stated Im not out every weekend so Pat testing is an expense issue that will run through a lot of mobile disco owner's minds??? As business picks up I would be willing to do it more frequently but currently Im happy with the rate I do it. Hense I asked wether the validation system we have on here could be more flexible to the disco owners needs. I am a responsible disco owner and always think about what I am doing and saying upon this site
PAT testing debate should be reopened and let run its course as would naturally happen upon any other forum site even if nothing more than to let the newbies ask questions. Im not bothered if it makes some of you guys yawn people want to know what the fuss about and there are still many disco's out there without PAT or PLI certificates. Keep the subject alive and to the forefront of what we are trying to do within this site

I agree with Steve.......
I think we have been down this long road enough and we could all discuss and even argue over it until the cows came home and still not reach any sort of reasonable conclusion.

As I can see a dedicated Sticky PAT subject for the newbies is not allowed as those senior members are bored of it and make a stink about the fact it does come up every 3 months. Sorry guys prehaps I was asking for something maybe to much like hard work as the PAT cert subject is a very touchy and ambiguous subject. No one of you are right nor wrong on how it should be dealt with as there are NO STRICT RULES only flimsy guidelines

then look closer at the chart for Items used by public, Schools and Hotels we work in all these envioronments and they are all different and None apply to us, as no one uses my equipment only I do???
YES They are all Portable items I use, but none comply to this chart
Type of equipment P= portable,
User checks,
class one formal inspections and combined inspections and tests
class two formal inspections and combined inspections and tests
EG
Used by public as steve quoted he thought we were ?
class one is weekly and 6monthly
class two being monthly and 12 monthly
Schools work on
class one 4 month and 12 month
class two4 month and 48 month
Hotels completely buck the trend
class one 12 month and 24 month,
class two 24 month and none
As I stated PAT testing is an unregulated farce, the validation systems is flawed because there are no Strict prosecutable laws to enforce if we didn't get our equipment tested.
Sorry guys but the proof is in the conversation we either group together and ask MP's to make it a require thing by law, or this arguement will continue to circulate forever every 3 -4 months. Mayhap making it a legal requirement will finally stamp on the lackluster part of our trade

For what it's worth, this topic is done and dusted. Badger, or wabbit, can you please give up. PAT is no substitute for a good DJ and a good show and some hard work. Whatever you choose to do and whatever advice you choose to take or not take is down to the individual. I think the general concensus is well known.
Go and find some work and stop worrying about the other guys. Worry about yourself!

As much as I appreciate your sentiments Ricey someone has to be concerned for the welfare of our industry. Wether I was a large entertainment company or a small one man disco show or a Karaoke specialist. It would be nice for a level playing field for all industries to work from regarding PAT testing.
Wether its us or schools or hotels this way everyone knows that it has to be done Yearly? or whatever figure that is defined as a way of regulation of us as businesses.
I am looking for work always. I am worrying about myself and My opinion has as much right as anyone else. I just debate my corner well
Anyone whom does not want to debate this subject then fine dont comment further

Im not gonna keep going on guys but it seems all you guys ever want to do about Pat testing is to turn a deaf ear to it
Try this ask all rival disco's in your area if they have upto date Pat certificates most will be liars especially when you ask to see them
2nd I am continually amazed at the amount of hotels / venues that still do not ask for proof of both PLI & Pat certificates on the night within my own local area. Infact most don't give a hoot

Not at all. The subject has been done again and again and again.
Try this ask all rival disco's in your area if they have upto date Pat certificates
Why would I waste my time doing that? I would rather concentrate on my own business, rather than worrying about other people's. Not only that, as has been discussed a million times, PAT is not a legal requirement.

Rome wasn't built in a day. I send my paperwork to any new venue that I haven't worked in before, whether they ask for it or not. I suggest you do the same and they will gradually get the idea.

There will always be the end of the market that doesn't care and doesn't comply, often the same end of the same end of the market that wants something for nothing, i.e. wants to pay £100 for a disco!
All our DJs are PAT tested annually inhouse and we are sending out dozens of PAT certificates every week, to hotels and other venues that are asking and do take PAT and PLI seriously.

guess there just covering there back's incase anything did ever happen
guess there just covering there back's incase anything did ever happen
possibly, but I must admit to being rather selfish when it comes to electrical safety and always thinking of protecting MY OWN BACK first........
......from the risk of severe burns (or worse) that could be caused by an avoidable electrical accident.
In my book, PAT testing and regular visual inspections are the key and always will be.
i was thinking more of the lines of PLI but i guess PAT testing is a visual thing once it had been checked over
