Is it possible to blow a mackie powered system

Hi guys i was working with a band last night and they suggested that i plug my output into there sound system,Great i thought because it was the mackie powered system with separate bass bins on the bottom.
Any way after the band had finished theyre first set i put a cd in and was only getting sound from one set of speakers,the band said it looks like the speaker has blown,But to change the fuse its a major strip down job.So we just had to put my peavey 115 in place of the mackie.

I thought that it would be impossible to blow a powered mackie system is that true?

It's no different to blowing a passive system's speaker, the same concept is there...amp powers speaker. If you let the passive system clip, theres a chance of blowing the cone (after time), the same applies with an active system, should you allow it to clip for a long period.

I'm not sure about the mackies.. but alot of powered cabs have protection which just turns the cab off if you clip too much, to save the speakers. It might be that this just kicked in, normally you'd have to wait a while before the cab will turn back on again. It used to do that with my carlsbro powered cabs anyway.

If you are looking after your system, running it properly and not clipping it, then it wouldn't happen anyway.

A lot of amps have limiters on them and do the same thing. If one speaker went off, you'd still have the other one.

agreed :D :D ive only had one of my mackies go of once at a school prom as a friendly would be dj thought it wasnt loud enough and kept leaning over and turning the master up when i was looking for the next track.
