PC Drive issue.

Mornin Folks

I have a slight issue with my home PC. Only recently my DVD/CD writer has stopped reading and burning discs.
I have been using this drive for years and have only recently tried to burn some music onto disc but the draw keeps spitting them out???? Also when I go to put music or games in the drive it used to recognise them straight away but it no longers runs them. Any ideas would be great.....

I cant understand its just stopped working overnight as if something has been disabled.

have you tried putting a lens cleaner in

Can you open the drawer from windows? (Right click the drive icon -> Eject)

If not, it sounds like maybe the data connection is loose. If it's not that, the drive is kaput!

Cd drives have a limited lifespan, it probably needs replacing they are not expensive though. A new dvd writer will cost about £30 if you dont mind installing it yourslef.

It happens. On the computer I am using at the moment, both drives died within a couple of weeks of each other, and the PC is about 2 years old. Picked up an Asus DVD-R, latest product for £19 + VAT and it works a treat.

If you want a drive that will last for years and years to come, get a Plextor.

i have a samsung dvd re-writer drive it even has lightscribe. where you can burn an image onto a disk (the drive has 2 laser's) but only in black and white for the cheap drive. but only works on thermal discs. only cost me about £40 but thats was 2 years ago

i recently bought a new drive about 30 quid and installed it myself in about 15 mins so it is a stupid proof manoeuvre.
