New Years Eve Pricing

What do you guys do with regards to pricing for NYE? Double normal rate, add on a standard surcharge, or what?

I try not to get any bookings for NYE as I have quite a large family so we always have a party.

I have been asked a couple of times, I quoted one person £600.00 and they said "no, that's far too much"

When I was trying to find one for my cousin who doesn't live near me I had quotes that ranged from £250.00 - £950.00.

Normally around double, but it really depends whether it's a one off booking or the client gives you lots of work during the year.

depends how much you want it..

If your not that bothered.. quote a lot.. you may just get lucky.
If you need the bookings.. be competitive.

personally i'm not that bothered.. because I am generally way too busy with working at the theatre over the crimbo holidays (with the panto.. woo!)..

so my new years eve generally consists of... Working panto matinee.. work evening panto.. go for a few drinks.. go home and have fireworks and shizzle with myfamily :-) = perfect

To be honest, if I have been DJing at a regular venue all year round and they are giving me the regular work then I won't go over the top. I don't tend to double my fee as I feel like I would be taking the biscuit so I charge a little extra. I enjoy working NYE as the atmosphere is great and everyone is up for it so it doesn't matter to me.
I am out at a regular venue and I have 2 other people out using my other rigs which I will get an extra fee from each off. This will then add to my wages for NYE so it's good. I am then supplying 3 x NYE Discos at very reasonable prices.

As a rule of thumb, double rates... but as Darren says, if it's a customer that you've got a lot of other work from then we give them a NYE discount.

My new year's eve gigs always come through my friend's agency.

He doesn't charge as much as me & also takes his agency fee, so I usually end up working for about £350...barely more than I charge during the year for my normal bookings.

I don't mind working for this money though, as they are always easy pub gigs within a few miles, and you always get that special atmosphere on new year's eve...which is why I've worked every one for over 20 years now.

If I only did one gig a year, it would be new year's eve.

People don't HAVE to go out if they don't want to.

I know quite a few people who spend new year's eve at home!

Rob, many people are forced by their partners and family to go out and from personal experience, I have witnessed a lot of people who didn't really want to be there.

Pubs will probably a lot different I should imagine, as people who go in pubs are normally up for it a bit more.

Hence my reply. I have been doing Hotels etc and the punters are very hard to 'get going' if you know what I mean.

It was nearly 10 years ago, and I seem to remember it was a very good night...although I was alternating with a band...so I guess they helped to get the atmosphere going.

OK guys Agencies were quoting £450 for NYE last year ???? I here this year they are already quoting £500

I personnaly was going to quote a reasonable £350 - 400 for anything within 20 miles from home

I used to do gigs when I was a singer and never used to go through my agent for these - minimum I went out for was £300 but one year (2005) I got £450.

I wouldn't do a disco on NYE for less than £300 (around double what I would normally go out for - except my appalling paid residency)

I didn't ask you to start willy waving! I was merely thinking that £750 is a lot of money to command for someone of your age.

I have had a regular NYE booking for 3 years for a local choir group. I will do the evening for £200 agreed usually get a bit extra with them being very happy with my performance. It's a great night with them all out to have a great time and the buffet is the best I will tuck into all year round! Very nice people and a great atmosphere. Probably best booking of the year. This thread is reminding me I must confirm my regular xmas + ny bookings to make sure they are all up for it again this year! If I had to change my regular NYE booking it would be minimum £200 probably bit more depending on venue and distance.

Oh yes i am insured for the pyro's and confetti... wouldnt use them otherwise, i selll them in a wedding package (venue permitting of course) Looks very well on the 1st dance with confetti falling over the bride and groom

The only thing i will say with NYE bookings is they tend to be longer than average work throughout the year so you end up working 7-1 or 2 am in a venue where you normally finish at 12 so the cost has to be proportional longer hours and the fact that work isnt hard to come by on NYE pushes the pricing up double is a fair margin if the hours are the same as a normal booking you do at a venue but if they want an extra couple of hours then double isnt going to be enough :)
