Business Logo

I'm looking to design a decent logo for my disco business and was hoping to do it myself on some kind of software. I have a few ideas of what I want.

What do you lot use (if any)

Obviously I want to do this as cheap as possible (preferably free, lol)

Adobe illustrator if you want a pro quality logo that can be scaled to any size and is print ready.

I used Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Not free or cheap but I use it for all my designs!

Logos should be designed using vector software, so your designs are completely scalable (sp?). The industry standard vector applicatons are Corel Draw & Adobe illustrator. Both are very expensive and have a steep learning curve, so unless you have a lot of expendable time to devote to learning them... they are best avoided. There are cheaper (non vector) logo design applications out there, 'Logo Creator' for instance. However, the designs they produce are completely naff in my opnion.

It all really depends on how and where you want to use your logo.

I have Corel Draw X3. Its a brill program i have had it for 3-4 months now and I'm still getting me head around it!!

Corel is awesome. I used to Corel to create your logo.

I have the original source file, but you only get the finished article. I never release the original...sorry.

I retain the copyright to any design I create...much the same as a photographer retains the right to all the images they take.

i understand. :)

just like my nrother with his pictures. he puts his name on everything so when he puts his stuff online there is no way anyone can copy them.

The only similarity between Callum's and Shaun's logos is that they are both circular. "both look the same but with different images" doesn't make much sense to be honest....surely that would make them totally different?

Unless you mean their forum avatars....which aren't so much their logos as their logos stuck on a spinning disc....and there's only so much you can do with a circular logo to animate it!

Re copyright law and who owns what, without explicit transfer copyright remains with the creator of the work. This applies to graphic design, web design, logo design, photography....pretty much anything.

It's all in the Berne Convention if you want to go and read up on it :)

So if you want to own your logo / website / publicity shots outright, get it in writing from the designer / photographer beforehand. And be prepared to pay considerably more!
