Help on Lighting please

Hi all.

I lighting I currently have...

4 DMX Dynamos
1 Acme Fiesta gobo projector
1 Acme Exercet projector
1 T-Bar
Prolight DMX light controller

I'd like to buy a goal post rig to put all my lights on, (possibly buy some more lights for it as well?) but I have some questions please..

1) What is the easiest and tidiest way to plug all the lights in across the width of the goalpost? Is it a case of taping a series of multi plugs to the top of the rig, and using cable ties to tidy up the electric and DMX cables, or is there an easier way?

2) I'd like to have a more impressive, and controlable light show. Can you advise of anything I can do with my current set-up, or how I can add to it in order to achieve this please?

It kinda depends on the rig you get.
But if you say got a standard goal post rig from DJSTORE (70kg capacity - 69.99) then unless you have long leads you would probably want to fix a multi-bar (thing) onto the rig.. I would say one with switches for each socket.. making it easier to turn off the lights if you need to duty cycle them.
I would use a mixture of black cables ties and gaffer where needed (but so it looks nice and tidy.. not just slapped anywhere) to get the cabling in order.. although again it depends on the rig.

Sort of a get it and experiment situation.

Re lighting I would say it depends on what effect your after!
You could add a couple of cheap movers to it (from the iSolution range) or if you had the money go for a couple of Macs or Pilots or something which are a bit more advanced - i would also watch Ebay for bargains.. although obviosuly be careful of things that might not actually work when you get them.

Another thing to consider is maybe a laser show?

You might want to consider something like the Chauvet Show Director.

This clips to your crossbar somewhere and has a single mains feed and a low-voltage signal cable to a rack-mountable switchpack. Really helps with setup times and keeping a tidy rig and gives you individual control over each effect.

Then get an assortment of IEC leads of different lengths (probably easier to make rather than buy) from 30cm up to 3m and use these to connect each effect to the director block.

Do you think the Controller is worthwhile though?

Am I better of just plugging all the DMX fixtures in, and letting them roll? I have the CA 8 controller, that gives be the basic black-out etc.

Are there any simpler controllers available?

Most Prolight fixtures have pretty good built in programmes and I wouldn't bother with a DMX controller just for 4 scanners.

It's only when you need the scanners to do specific things that DMX becomes handy.

Seems a little too much effort to programme all the scenes and chases in though?

Also, what is the best way to set my dip switches on my 4 Dynamos please?
