Strange problem with mine presently--today I couldnt get the index page from Google link or by typing in the full title--I have touched nothing at all on the ftp.

It appears that somehow the instruction on the ftp file had lost the ticks in the boxes which allow viewing by me the public etc.

I deleted existing file, dragged and dropped the file again , ticked the boxes and it works:D

So how does a file change itself on its own like that?????????????????

thanks guys

Depending on your FTP software, you might be able to change permissions on files by right clicking on them. Look for "Change Permissions", "Attributes" or "CHMOD". Should be set to 644 for normal files.

Thanks Marc--my FTP has a permissions box with several boxes to be ticked including Owner, group and all users.

Obviously you need them ticked to view anything.

When I checked none were ticked ---so not possible to view on the Web:eek:

I know I didnt do this because I ALWAYS back test after working on the site.

I can only assume my Host Company have somehow affected it--

They are currently undertaking some maintenence at present--not much use to me of course.

When I regularly change my index.htm file I never have to tick boxes because its done automatically, all I have to do is drag and drop --then rename the file to index. htm

Very strange:confused:

Will need to keep any eye on this as you dont always know the site is down unless you keep checking--

I may be wrong and not understanding what you've done totally... but..
you do no want to check all the options.. only up to the value of 644.. otherwise it is 'unsafe'

Just thought I would point it out.... hopefully i'm not wrong :p
