CD Drive!

Hello all

I having some problems with my PC at the moment. The IDE controller drivers for my Computers CD Drive have disappeared. This means that i cannot read or rite CDs! HELP!! Asus (CD Drive) only have Firmware updates and Microsoft are a :Rob James: for things like this! No one tell me to go and get the Win XP disc! Cant read discs!!

If you have another computer you could try chucking your xp disc in that machine, sharing the drive across the network. Then mapping a drive to the share on your machine. Then try and get windows to find drivers for the said device is the newly mapped drive.

Thats presuming Windows knows there is a device there....(i.e. has a big ? next to it device manager).

The other thing to try is get it to search for drivers (if you do an "update driver" on the said ?'d device) in c:\windows\system32\drivers (then try with out the \drivers).

What did you do to it, to make the drivers disappear??

I have tried a system restore. I dont know what i did! It fell off my desk a few days ago but luckily it landed on another table!!!

Also system interrupt controller has a yellow ? and yellow ! HELP!!!

do as i said. try and update the driver, tell windows to look in a specific location "c:\windows\system32\drivers" if that doesnt work keep taking the folders off till it does.

I bet he blew it up some way...

Nothing there! in c:\windows\system32\ it says that there is no drivers better than the one it already has.

You should use a drive image program ;)

ok, try a system in-place install. This means installing windows over the top of your current installation. You won't loose everything, and as long as you complete the setup OK, everything should be OK.

Backup first, then reboot and proceed like you would to install windows. Once loaded it asks you if you want to repair. Choose no, you should be then asked to accept microsoft's terms. After you've done that, you should get another choice to repair windows on the partition. Choose that option.

Setup then copies files, and installs windows over the top (it looks like it does when you install XP, and supposedly takes 39 mins....yeh right.)

I would say get a Thermaltake PSU, but then even that won't hold out if you're gonna drop the PC on the floor.. :rolleyes:

Sorry for using my common sense, but if it was the IDE controller, then surely the hard drive wouldn't work either and the PC wouldn't boot!

Google for the make and model of your CD drive and download the drivers, but it shouldn't really need them anyway, which is why I thought it may be a hardware issue.

Oh.. and have a quick check under the bonnet to make sure it hasn't come unplugged or anything like that.

I have done all the possible things that i can do! The first thing i done when i realized it wasn't working was check the connections! I have tried to put another CD Drive in and its the same!

THIS IS SERIOUSLY GETTING OUT OF HAND!!!! My other PC has jsut gave me the same problem!!


Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
