Does anyone own both a HD2500 & a Cortex or a HD2500 & a D2?

Tony's question on back up (in the I'm confused now... thread) got me thinking....

Are there any issues with playing files that have been through the DDJMM software on either the Cortex or Numark players? As either of them would be a cheaper option for back up if the HD2500 went down.

Please don't suggest a PC based playout as back up, I'm not interested & have no desire to use a PC for anything to do with disco work other than taking bookings & sending emails etc etc.......

All I want to know is if the MP3s on my HDDs will play ok on all 3 players available if they have been through DDJMM.

I haven;t tried it, but I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference. The Denon software doesn't change the format or structure of the mp3s.

Try and play an mp3 through WMP or Winamp etc.

That's only the tags though - it will probably still read the mp3.

OK , im on at last been out all day and thats my excuse and im sticking to it..
Both the cortex and the numark do not change your labelling at all. They simply create either from the unit or from the pc based software a seek table. This seek table is saved to the drive in a seperate folder. (normally /db or /libarary. I use my drives for either my cortec or numark.Although in an emergancy you can use the unit to creat these folders it is much faster on the pc based software. Both units will play variable and constant bitrate mp3 files with bitrate from 64 - 320kbps ALthough it will not play aac formats that are digitally managed (e.g itunes) as it has no way to connect to internet to check licences.
All my music stays the same in the folder no names are changed nothing is done to the music. ALthough I cannot say for definate that the dennon unit does the same the cortex and numark do not modify data on the drives.

I use my numark the most as it has crate function. As I dont really fancy having to update 2 different drives each time makes more sense to have 2 of the same unit.

I think he meant either the internal drive on the unit, or a USB attached drive - both no use if the controller fails (an unlikely scenario)

I have 2 external drives, both carry full copies of the music one for the numark and one for the cortex. I also have a third drive that carries a mixed table that can work with either. If I have 2 numarks I would only require 2 drives and they can be identicle. Less hassle for updating.

I think the Denon has an ONBOARD spare Hard drive--thats ok as long as the whole unit doesnt blow up ---and you can get your collection on the HDD.

I work with a Cortex + HDD plus Laptop + HDD although im likely to get another Cortex as back up cos I like it so much, then the wife can have her Laptop back:D :D :D :D :D :D
