Badger - it sounds like you're on a real low at the moment. Don't make any rash decisions when you're in this mood. As always, (and to quote a lyric) you'll 'pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again'. You're a natural born fighter, which means you're a survivor!

Anything anyone can say now will seem a bit of a cliche, but a lot of cliches are true!

Woah, wait a minute Badger, that sounds a bit drastic! I don't doubt that things aren't going to plan for you, but take a step back and think on your next move. As far as your problems with getting access to your daughter, I have had friends in similar situations, and fighting gets nowhere. It took time, but being friendly and talking things through was the only way - I don't know your ex but I'll bet that's the way to resolve things, she is human after all.

As for your career, have you considered getting another job alongside your business? Even if it is part time, it will keep things steady for you when the bookings are quiet.

These suggestions which may be of no use to you, but at least think about things rationally? :)

And for the record, even though your opinions and methods don't match everyone else's here - I've always had respect for you because you do things your own way, and won't be influenced into anything else ;)

Excellent advice!

When I went full-time 3 years ago, I decided that if there were any times when I was struggling, I'd simply get a part-time (or even full-time) job in the daytime. That's the beauty of what we do, we work at night, so we are free in the day to do another job if it becomes necessary.

A friend of mine did the same thing. He runs mobile discos & went through a bad patch early this year, so he actually signed up with an employment agency & did some temping for a few weeks to make up for the temporary lack of income from the discos.

However bad things seem, you can always find tonnes of people MUCH worse off than yourself, so remember that, stay positive & you will be able to work things through.

...and if it makes you feel better, you can even do another thread about PAT testing!!!

you and I are of a similar age, and by all acounts I have gone through what you have to a certain extent. Thing is, you will get through it, and you will be better for it, you will be stronger and value your fortune, health and your friends, but more so your daughter. My ex stopped me seeing Kerri, my daughter for 6 months, i didn't fight, i waited, and guess what, i won, i got to see my daughter. A friend of mine has just gone through the same, and he too has comee out of it.

Please don't feel so alone, you're not, we're all here to push you along, and there is help out there when you need it, just see your GP.

Remember your daughter is precious to you, don't stop loving her and that means being there for her. From one dad to another, be ther for her now and in the future, she will need you.

For the records, no matter what happens now, you never know what the future holds. Your daughter will make her own decissions as she gets older, and you will meet someone in time. Life is precious, you put 100% into what you do now, something will turn good. Only quitters talk like you and deep down i know you are not a quitter.
A new day a new start, change YOUR life for the better

let me tell you a story .................. I have been at several low places in the past few year and im not at any point trying to compete mate just raw one or 2 comparisons

in the last 6 years I have spent 2 in counselling 2 on antidepressants 2 in the pub argueing with myself and spending 250 quid a week in the local pub which i didnt have because i was unemployed.

once been told i have 2 weeks to live and spent 8 months in hospital in 2001.

I now have a wonderful family successful business and im unable to work until christmas due to yet more surgery 30 now in as many years.

so i really do know where you are coming from.

last year I took my son to Anfield for his first home game in its self a massively proud moment but ....

I took him round the museum and as we sat in the recreated stand watching the european cup winning hilights 2 things that were said hit me like atom bombs.

the first was a dad who said,

"i'd taken my young son to Istanbul to watch our beloved reds in the final at half time we were getting battered 3-0 with seemingly no way back, people were leaving the ground.... then with heart and courage Liverpool battled back and the score was 3-3 at that point I put my arm around my son pointed up at the large scoreboard and said ............................... whatever you do in your life son don't ever ever give up!!!"

the second was the late great Alan Ball who on the same peice of film said ...

"whatever you are doing it realy doesnt matter if you lose .......... as long as you lose having the biggest d@mn fight of your life!"

keep you chin up mate and although the chips are down don't ever stop fighting because even if just one amazing thing happens it will be worth it.

Hi Badger,
I was in a similar position about a 2 year ago. My ex wife and I split up in 2003. She was all nice to start with then after about 6 months, I started getting really nasty texts after I had seen my daughter for the weekend saying she was in tears and that she wasn't enjoying her time with me. This really hurt, only to find out later none of it was true.
She is a real daddy's girl and never leaves my side when she's with me!.
I love my daughter more than life itself so I appreciate where you're coming from, I really do!

To cut a long story short, I am now re-married (aug this year) and have inherited 3 step daughters and a step grand-daughter, and couldn't be happier.
2 years ago I wouldn't have belived I would be in my current situation.

All I can say is, things will work out if you fight for them. Take a step back, look at the situation and "think outside the box". Obviously the best way to sort access to your daughter is ammicably, but remember, the courts are there if you need them and you'll probably be able to get free legal aid if you're hard-up. You only get one shot at life (unless you believe in Budhism (probably spelt wrong)) so make it count.

Believe me - you'll be a stronger person after this and you'll probably be giving others advice like this someday (hopefully) soon.

As for the business, everyone has hard times. Try being pro-active (I know it's hard when you feel low), get some flyers and hit the pubs, clubs or even get an agent for now.

All the best mate and keep us informed!

OK everyone Im Going back to doctors today

Im like a weeble I sometimes wobble but I wont fall down. I have an ability to look at each day as a new one I get up and start again anew. But I have suffered with manic depression for 20 years and I wont take anti depressants as they are pills and I have attempted suicide twice via pills, hence a daily fight to exsist continues. my music and DJing is the only thing keeping me sane LOL as well as my daughter. when I get too see her

Business is quiet and I am lonely without female company etc etc, I am looking for a job like I have been for sometime. I am trying to promote a business without any cash, everything is being done on a shoestring to advertise although I have upgraded the website and all directories have been upgraded to new numbers etc etc. if you know of any other free directories then send them my way it can only help.

I can only say thanks for all your support whilst I am feeling down. I will survive as gloria said and things can only get better now where have I heard that before LOL

Went through same thing 20 years ago. Not being able to see daughter etc.
Fight it, get legal aid, your daughter has the right to see YOU.

I have read many of your threads on the forum and like the way you put things. Some will get their backs up at your comments but you never seem to lash back at the replies, almost just standing back with a smile on your face while slapping them round the face with a piece of wet fish saying "Yes but this is the way I do it".

And that's whats needed on forums. Someone to say I love lightboxes and why should we get PAT tested. If it was all Peavey this and Bosse that then I would be off.

All the best Mate.

Badger, it seems there are quite a few on here who have been through the mill and you can count me as one of them.

Without boring you my ex wife left me for a really good mate of ours, he even went on hols with us! At the time my daughter was 14 and my son 9. My daughter stayed with me and the lad went with his mother, so she literally split the family in two. I lost our house went bankrupt complete hell.

Yeh I went through the things the rest have spoken about, lost 4 stone could drink for England and became a total waste of space. My ex told my lad loads of cow mess and tried to fill my daughter with hate against me, none of it nice.

Now at the tender age of 56, I've got a new lady a daughter of 3 and I'm happy.

However, no matter what people say and what they've been through, there are no problems as bad as your own, simply because they're yours.

For me mate, try and talk to somebody. You can get through it, you need to get through it because one day, maybe not tomorrow, not next month, not next year but one day your daughter will NEED YOU!!! You need to be there for her and when that time comes and it will, you'll feel the greatest Dad on the planet.

I'm not religious but seriously walk into a church and sit and be alone. It can be extremely rewarding and uplifting, have a chat to the vicar, you can trust them.

Good luck Badger.

Apologies for this as it may sound a bit harsh but this topic opener scared me. A DJ forum is not the place (in my opinion) to make statements like that. I am sorry if I have read it wrong but to me it almost looked suicidal.
Things will work out in the end, they always do and I'm guessing that you may be feeling slightly better at the moment after getting off your chest to people in the forum who you may class as mates so I'm contradicting myself when I say fair do's but talk to someone about it all in the real world mate.

Badger, recently I said I was leaving because of an insult on here. As some folk will know I still kept looking in, and often would have liked to post. So now it's head above the parapet time, here goes. I have always regarded you as a person of integrity, and honour. I cannot stand up and say I have shared your experiences, although when I lost a prestigious residency
( through no fault of my own) I nearly went bust, and it took me years to build up trade again. Many of us have been about as low as you described, and yet we are still here. Behave with dignity and politeness at all times, don't lower yourself, that is not the way forward. Have you noticed how many of your sternest opponents have been among the first to offer you support? I suspect you don't realise how many true friends you have on here. I know I can't actually offer you any concrete help, but I ( and I suspect many others) are happy to offer you any moral support we can. There are many channels of communication available, feel free to use them.

We all have bad days and sometimes it is hard to see through the problems. Had my spare wheel nicked of my new car today, its a minor problem compared to yours but for the whole of today all I could think of was bad thoughts. Couldnt see good things at all. But I saw my daughter smile at me this evenign and I just felt better. Sometimes the simplist things can turn a really bad day into an ok day.
