Checking I'm on the right lines

Just a quicky.

As you know currently doing a deal with local comedy club for PA hire (free but get a number of tickets to the gig).

They are launching a new night elsewhere and asked me to provide the kit - popped to venue yesterday with them to assess requirements (and this will be a paid for hire). I'm quoting for:

2 x Carlsboro Actives
mixer
wired PG58
6 x PAR56

and all cables and stands required.

Now obviously we scratch each others backs a little.

My list price for dry hire would be about £100, but have offered it as a dry hire for £80

However they asked for a serviced quote too. Now my list for that little lot serviced worked out at about £240, but this will be regular work. Therefore I have pitched in at £150.

Does that sound reasonable, far too cheap or too expensive?

I have a feeling they usually try to get as much as they can for as little as they can! But would hate to find that there's a man down the road who can do it cheaper! (although maybe this is "get what you pay for land?")

Unlike Normal Hire Companies --as an Entertainer rather than a tecchie you like me would have to decide if this was cutting across other better paid Entertainment work if its peak time---i.e Weekend

If its midweek then no contest---better than watching telly---

If its weekend you might be kicking yourself if a well paid Wedding or Party is offered on the same date--in which case £250 would probably be the right rate for you--but other Hire Companies would simply look at it as another hire I guess.

No brainer---ring a couple of local firms and get a quote from them as well:D

Unless you have " staff " this will be a problem for you DOING WET HIRE at weekends. Especially as a young Ricesnaps is arriving soon:D

But they cost money and Employers Liability Insurance on top.

If other local quotes are no better I would disregard the "local cheapo" and write them off as amateurs--no PAT, no PLI etc

A bloke said to me recently--well xyz Caller charges £100 less than you==thats his problem I said--anyway he cant do it--do you want the job doing properly---or not--:D :D :D

Totally :offtopic: but Alan's story reminded me of a funny from a few years back. My folks used to run a corner shop. One day a kid came in and asked for a can of coke. 30p please. 30p? but they're only 25p at the co-op! Well go and buy one at the co-op then... But they're shut! Well ours are only 20p when we're shut ;)

haha.. i do like it when people say that.
Sometimes you get people who will complain and say.... but i've had quotes for £50 pounds... for me it's a no brainer... if they want a rubbish disco.. with a DJ who plays the music that he likes.. and not anything appropriate which will actually make people dance.. then they can book that dj.

Took the words right out of my mouth mate - I had a call last weekend as I was just out on my way to a gig. The guy on the end of the phone replied to my price quotation with "But how can you justify being more expensive than the other companies I have rung?, What makes you different?"

I simply replied with "The main thing is that I will actually turn up!" I'm sure he thought I was joking or something as he put the phone down on me. I didn't have time to call him back as I was halfway out the door so I called him back on sunday afternoon and just made sure that he had got something sorted....guess what!!??...He decided to go with the company that were the cheapest...(£120.00 for 5 hours work on a saturday night in November).

This is quite an easy one for me - the hire will always be a Sunday evening. I very very rarely get any DJ work for a Saturday. The kit is also not kit I would generally use for a disco anyway - dedicated PA mixer, would use the Carlsboro's, not the main PA, PAR cans now don't go out with the DJin as I have the LED ones....

However, it seems that they are more interested in the dry hire price than the serviced price.

she said his sound was very quiet when she asked him to turn it up he said thats as loud as it can go he had 2 screen and 2 spot boxes ( ro80) and few bulbs wernt lighting up and he didnt have many modern songs and for that matter not many songs at all and when he used the mic you couldnt hear what he was saying

I started reading it & then couldn't be bothered to finish, because without punctuation it is very hard going.
