Just a quick question.
Im looking at some speaker specs and its 250 watts rms for the woofer and 50 watts rms for the tweater.
Now also with this it also has 500 watts and 100 watts Music power.
What is this???

Basically music power is the rms power it can take from an amp to reproduce music. Most companies call it program power. When the companies make a speaker they test it with a constant tone this is the rms power. As most music does not have constant tones it means there is more power available for the levels you do use.
This is a bit of a difficult subject as most manafacturers have differing views on what power you require. My personal rule is about 1.8 x the rms power is required for best efficiency.
So if this speaker is rated 250 watts rms I would run it using a 450 watt amp. This allows for signal peaks like heavy bass line etc. As the speaker is rated 500 watts program this means you have slightly less power than they recomend but it means less chance of blowing them up as long as you do not allow your amp to clip.

cheers spin. as these speakers are active they do have a button on the back weather you want Flat, Music or Speach.
So im guessing for Disco's i could have it set to Music and with a sub cut in at 120 hz then the speaker would be ok as its not producing much bass notes???
just to clear things up in my empty brain.

If you were using them with an active sub, you'd use the high pass out on the sub and that would do the job.

could do but i was thinking of running the sub from the eq direct (sub out) os if a song is to bassy then i can turn it down a touch and not affect the main speakers but your way is the easier way though

RMS stands for 'Root Mean Square' and in music terms, represents the maximum continuous power that a speaker can tolerate without overheating. The same applies to amplifier output power i.e. the RMS power rating of an amplifier represents the maximum continuous power output of the amp without it overheating.
Equipment manufacturers are very fond of rating their amps and speakers using PMP 'Peak Music Power' as this allows them to exaggerate the specification of their equipment. However, Peak Music Power is only a measurement of the 'momentary power' handling capability. Often this PMP handling capability is only available for a few seconds without damage to the equipment; it usually represents the equipments ability to cope with intermittent surges such as bass notes or drum rolls and so (even then, it usually produces significant harmonic distortion).
Using DC (Direct Current) such as a battery, you can calculate the available power by using the following formula:
Power = Volts x Amps
e.g.
1 Watt = 1 Volt x 1 Amp
Amps in this case of course, is a measure of the direct current flowing through the circuit such as a torch bulb or a mobile phone etc.
To use the formula above for 'alternating current' AC sources (such as the varying audio output from an amplifier), you have to use the RMS values of the voltage and current in order to find the equivalent DC or continuous power output value.
Always check the RMS power values with any piece of equipment as the Peak Music Power values can be very misleading; often PMP values can be 10 x the true RMS value.

'Music Power' is just another term for 'Peak Music Power'.
'Music Power', 'Peak Music Power', 'Peak Power', 'Maximum Output' and so on.. are all terms used to avoid specifying the real power, i.e. RMS Power.
When you buy equipment, you need to know the RMS power and nothing else.
Also, bear in mind that RMS power should be quoted alongside an optimum impedance e.g. 100 Watts into 8 Ohms. :)
