Not quite sure why there is a poll on this thread for? A bit pointless.

Most disco retailers sell karaoke discs.

Cookies and Images do a lot of karaoke stuff.

try session music

www.sessionmusic.co.uk

they do most of the major companies and starter packs of discs and have an online database where you can search for tracks.

I think the more important thing to consider here, is do you really want to take on karaoke??

If your reasoning is that it will generate more income for you alongside discos, then i would seriously think twice about it. There are other threads in this section with good advice in them.

you want to try ebay for some cheap discs and also try your local retailers as they sell most of the stuff, plenty of cheap clearence discs on the internet too if you keep your eyes peeled.

Yes, but I would consider every purchase carefully first, as to whether you need the songs on offer. Most cheap/clearance discs I've seen tend to be full of 'filler' tracks and expired chart music - most of which will never even be used.

Gonna have to say EBAY as I know a good supplier there for collections??

Apart from this I would suggest custom burn for every thing you aint got

I buy mine from Cookies.co.uk, EMkaraoke.co.uk, Discoworlduk.com and Singtotheworld.co.uk

STTW also so custom discs at £1.75 a track which is great value!

Karaoke is still very much alive and going strong as far I can see. I does generate extra income but, granted, not enough to make me mega rich but I get by!

I do think karaoke mixes well with a disco given the right audience. But its up to the DJ/KJ to run the night and mix everything up nicely. It can be done! (I'm living proof!) ;)

As for places to buy your discs then I too would recommend Images but I also buy from local suppliers and by subscription so I can keep up to date with the latest releases.

Most of the karaoke's i've done, or helped James with, have been with disco, and they've worked brilliantly, as when they want to dance (keep it upbeat between singers and you'll soon know if they want to!) you play tracks.. if the floor thins you get a karaoke singer up! Sometimes then dance whilst the people are singing too.

Admitadley, these were all private functions rather than just general pub nights though.

hi all,

im fairly new to karaoke, but so far all is going well (touch wood).

on the topic of buying tracks - as i want to use Virtual DJ to play the karaoke tracks in future - i was just wondering if there was any legal sites you can download MP3+g tracks, rather than have to buy CD+g?
The immediate advantage to this would be being able to download, when required, and storage space.

Or if anyone could fill me in on the legalities of this?
many thanks

thanks for that, i couldnt find any when googling for them!

Is there anywhere, where you can buy them in a smaller amount - like you can with the cdg discs? - ie 10 or 20 at a time? - so i can get the ones i want - ie 60s - singalongs - disco - various artists etc.

I was very interested in this although I already have thousands of CD+G tracks converted to MP3+G but my thinking is if these tracks need no conversion then no need for ProDub. However, these tracks are not for download. You have to send your computer to PCDJ and they'll put them on for you. They state that your computer "will only be away for three days".

I was breaking out in to a cold sweat when I had to leave my laptop with an engineer for 4 hours a few months ago!

well spotted, im too reliant on my pc as well !

having just googled some more, has anyone ever come across this site?

it was on the 'google-ads' bar

http://www.karaoke.cc/default.aspx

i dont know where or what the ".cc" rather than ".co.uk" is from?

if its all above board, it could be great for the odd track or two? - i'll google some more, see if anyone has any opinions on this site?

What a cracking find! This site is run by Zoom who've been selling me discs for years. This is exactly what I've been looking for and could be the way round having to buy the ProDub licence for year 2 as the tracks are downloaded direct and there's no format shifting to be done.

Well done, Indie and well done Zoom for spotting the potential and acting on it!

glad to be of help - should save us having to pay for full discs with a lot of 'fillers' on there that will never get played!

I wonder if I point this MP3+G download service out to other manufacturers such as Sunfly, Mr Entertainer and Legends they'd offer the same service for their brands. That way I could buy all my karaoke tracks this way and need never have to buy another disc again. Just like I do with the disco stuff downloaded from 7Digital.

Think I'll be sending off emails and filling out 'suggestion' forms today!

DJ INDIE

It makes sense to me, Ive no idea why there isnt more of this buy single tracks available?
I can see the business side - selling only 'full' discs where 50% may be of no use, but i think this also puts of people from buying them at all!

If they are sold singularly, more and more people would buy them surely?

They can still encourage people to buy whole discs and collections by offering discounts when you buy over 10 tracks.

anywho, let us all know if you get anywhere with them, should be interesting to see what they say.

good stuff.

It does make sense, I'm not a kj but when I've sung karaoke and looked at the list, with the more popular tracks there's almost always a few of the same track.

I assume this is due to the fact that popular tracks are on several discs so you just end up buying duplicates a lot of the time just to get the odd song you don't have.

Thanks for those thoughts, guys.

I didn't get round to mailing this suggestion to the karaoke manufacturers but now I know that others think it's a good idea, I'll put it as a priority and set the ball rolling by the weekend.

I'll post replies as I get them so keep an eye out!

Also try this one. You can buy individual tracks in $ (get a decent deal if you're buying older tracks at 99c) and you get a 20% discount when you buy 5 or more tracks.

I've never used them, though always intended to, but 7digital apparently sell Karaoke tracks. Must have a go sometime.

Interesting - be careful though, there are karaoke tracks on amazon for download, but you only get the mp3 and not the G.

Before I quit karaoke. (to many kn*bEND wannabe singers)
I puchased the software to rip a midi track from an original, then you can add your lyrics click for click. Time consuming and the outcome was to be honest CR*P.

Stick with Soundfly and at a push Mr.Entertainer tracks.

Who?

Personally, I would choose MRE over SF. MRE seem to be getting tracks out quicker than SF and the "count-me-in" feature is very useful to singers.

Older SF releases were famous for using the wrong words in the songs (I assume that this was a licensing issue).

The LEGends series is pretty good, too.
