The show must go on?

Set up for my wedding tonight and have been shivering all afternoon.

Just wondered how you guys get through the night when you don't feel 100%?

As they say, the show must go on, I have to go and do it (and could do with the money). But any tips for getting through it?

Dose your self up with lemsip, paracetimal, relax now with a hot water bottle, and put some vics on a tissue and keep sniffing it. Have a hot bath before leaving

Maybe focus on something more than just the music. Perhaps pick out a nice young lady and focus on her for the evening ;)

Aim of the game...keep her in your eyesight....so you need to play the sort of music shes responding to (obviously not if the rest of the crowd disagree with her favourites!). The longer shes on the dance floor....the longer shes in your eyesight :P

I have Nurofen and a roadie who can just about fade between two tracks.

That's the trouble in our business...we can't phone in sick!

I've been out when I felt like crap - once with tonsilitis (where it was agony to swallow) and a couple of times with a fairly high temperature.

There's only been one occasion when I had to get someone to stand in for me, when I'd had a dodgy meal & was giving it back from both ends!

All you can do is dose yourself up with paracetamol, drink lots of water, make sure you keep warm, do your best...and look forward to the finishing time!

pro plus(caffiene tabs) and lucozade......hyperactive and climbing the walls for a good 5 hours.....and i carry a duvet and pillow in the van....I fit perfectly across the three seats in the scudo!

As others have said, dose yourself up with Beechams etc and you should be OK. If it makes you feel any better, I bruised my ribs 2 days ago and am hurting quit a bit at the moment.

I'm hurting even more in the wallet department as I had to pay someone to set my gear up today.. (Thanks Lee)

Organised for them despite their protests? I've done a few functions where the birthday boy (usually male, and old :)) just stayed in the public bar all night, and only came into the main hall when dragged in for the cake cutting etc.

The adrenaline definitely lifts you, but I once started feeling one night
mid-gig, nearly rang someone to come and pack up, but made it myself
( just) ! By the time I got home I was going about ten mph, crawled in to toilet and bed in that order, fifteen hours in bed straight! Wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't missed my annual Xmas Shopping Pub Crawl!!:cry: :cry:

That said I slept across 2 seats & a flightcase in my Expert (exact same size as a scudo) the other week when I went straight from a gig (emergency cover) back to the bike rally I'd been at the rest of the weekend.

I have dj'id at a 16th birthday party with a belting hangover from the night before after going out with aload of my mates, I know you shouldnt drink the night you are dj'in but i was highly influenced, there is nothing like it... you just cant be bothered and the night just drags big time!

The worst ive ever had was when setting up and the stage was a little un-even. I fell off the stage with one of my Abstract Twister 4HPs in my hand. Following that the entire disco deckstand fell off the stage on top of me. Nothing got broken apart from a few outed lamps luckily

After that i could hardly move for a few minutes had a bad leg my shoulders were hurting like h*ll and i could hardly stand up. But the show must go on. That night i grabbed a stool and sat on that while doing the disco.

I should have really gone to hospital to have it checked out. But didnt because the show must go on.

That is the main problem with comedy shows.... the followspot ends up shaking because we are laughing so much :p
