What to Charge?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone for the advice from my last post. Things are really starting to come together.

What is a reasonable ammount to charge per night? Don't want to over do it as im just new,

Hi David,

I'd start by working out your yearly expenses i.e. vehicle insurance, PLI, PAT, provision for replacing equipment, money spent on CDs etc.

Then divide that by the number of gigs you'd expect to do in a year. Then for each gig add on variable expenses, i.e. the amount of fuel you'd use, a provision for any extra songs you might have to get hold of.. basically anything that varies depending on the gig.

Now.. you have the minimum you have to charge to break even.. lastly work out the amount of hours you'd spend per gig (including prep, travelling, setup, playing time) and times that by what you think you're worth per hour!

Add them both together and you have your fee..

Thats the business way anyway.... the other popular method is doing a quick market survey of what others are charging and pitch yourself at a level you think you're worth...

It'd be interesting to see how the two figures compared!

There have been lots of previous threads on this if you look back through the forum but it depends, where you are, how long the gig is, what night of the week and loads of other variables (including how desparate you are for the work!)

I would say around the £200 is my minimum mark depending on regularity of bookings discounts etc etc as well as amount of what danno said

Remember your out there too make money and build a good reputation as you get more popular the better price you can quote

Well my prices are £220 for a standard disco set up based on 7pm - 1Am then for the bigger shows the price goes up accordingly if there is stairs into the venue, tight doorways, so for my medium disco in a easy access venue is £280 and then if you want the big roadshow with the plasma screens and video stuff then it goes upto £500
