I-Move 5 HID

I will be placing an order for my I-Move's in the next week, although I'm guessing it'll be the Stairvilles from Thomann.

Actually quite fancy the HID version, but it seems a lot more money. Is there an equivilant Stairville version, or does anyone know a really cheap place to buy the I-Move version?

I tested out the HID and halogen versions side by side and although the HID is brighter, there's not a gret deal of difference.

The real difference was the open or white, which was a lot brighter on the discharge version. Thought you might like to know before you spent money.

Also I believe the HID will have a dimmer function (as it's a discharge)... something which in my mind is a deffo plus!!

I thought HID lamps couldn't be dimmed, unless you mean a mechanical dimmer (iris/shutter/whatever)...

mm yes.. just had a look at its..

If the lamp lasts as long as they are supposed to with a discharge effect, then it is probably worth it for an extra £40 or however much more the effect is.

It's a higher spec light to the IM-5. The link you've posted contains the version that has rotating gobos.

i have 6 hid lamped effects irock5s hid and 5b hid and will send u a video clip off my phone and the lapms last 1000 hours

Not going to be much use though is it - it's a completely different effect.

it is also a 150 bulb = not very bright

Yeah, but a moving head has a completely different light output to a scanner, doesn't it?

The light isn't reflected off anything in a moving head, whereas on a scanner it is.

Going back to the link I posted for the more expensive Stairville unit - is this a re-badged version of anything we already have in the UK - I mean, buting the re-badged Stairville version of the IM-5 is fine as lots of people have the IM-5 and there is a clear history and feedback on it's abilities and how it stands up to life. If the one I posted is a re-badges something else, then I may have more confidence in going for it, or understanding what it can do.

I have to say I like the idea of HID if it provides a clear improvement and I think rotating gobo's would be good, but if there is no background on this more expensive unit, maybr £87 or whatever it it, is too much to gamble?

I don't remember seeing it anywhere in the UK.. but it is worth looking around.
It looks like a fairly 'ok' light but it is only a 150 discharge lamp..

Now I'm no expert, but maybe someone can explain why to you. the 150 lamp is a discharge, not a halogen and as such I believe are actually brighter than a 250 watt halogen
