Does anyone lease a van for disco use?

I'm just weighing up the pro's and con's of getting a van and how to finance it.

Any advice or ideas are welcome. :)

Depends how busy for hire but if you want a van to hire, why not look at one of

No space loss.....if i was busy all the time i would buy one....maybe the 115bhp though.......:)

Got caught in a traffic jam this morning actually, turning right onto the main Newport road. There was a bus AND a van in front of me. Was well hacked off I can tell you! Added a good 20 seconds to the journey... :(

Must admit i find the galaxy has loads of room in it, great for discos and great for the mrs and the kids.
Although a van would be ideal, it would be sat on the drive only being used for discos.
No point getting anything too flashy as it draws attention to itself.

ahh ok. so i guess that you pay for the van over how many months and just pay for your insurance because i was thinking about this but my dad is steering me away from.

the way i see it is that i dont have to buy a car for myself, just use the van. saves me money in the long run (i think)

It's probably not worth it for you as you are a sole trader. These kind of deals are generally more suited to companies etc.

Because people doing lease finance and contract hire don't seem to have any interest in sole traders and also I can't imagine that KMA has a massive turnover at the moment to warrant it.

Ah, I thought we were talking just finance, not contract hire. It's the same as any person buying a car on finance though really, just it's a van (finance, not contract hire).

well you got that right. lol. i dont make much at all at the moment so i guess ill have to buy a van instead. but hopefully in the future if i become a bigger company (if im still doing it) then maby think about it then.

There are several reasons for it Steve.

I need more room in the garage, which I'm having racked out, for more stock, so the trailor needs to go. It will also be used to deliver floors too as well as a few other things I have in the pipeline.

From the investigations I did, its really a trade off: cash flow benefits, tax benefits, constant outgoings, etc BUT it will cost you more overall (obviously), so what you've got to work out is whether you can easily raise the money to purchase out-right, or if the seurity of regular payments is the better option.

Also, as to how much it will cost overall, it will depend on what your plans are. If you intend to change the van very regularly, then leasing becomes a much more attractive option.

You've also the option of maintained contracts..... but these really are expensive, but they take away any hassle/risk if there's a problem with the van.

There are companies that do leasing of second-hand vehicles as well.

Read the small print though: a lot of the 'leasing' agreements are just dressed up finance loans, and check the balloon payments if there's any possibility of you keeping the van after the leasing period.

For the last 15 years, I've always bought second hand vans which are 3 or 4 years old for about £4000, and kept them for about 5 or 6 years.

That works out at about £66 a month (excluding tax, insurance, fuel etc), so for me it's a much cheaper option than leasing.

Does anyone have reports good or bad regarding the Citroen Dispatch/Peugeot equivalent, as they are the ideal size for my rig but I am yet to test drive one...?

Lovely drive Al, once you get used to the gearstick being on the dashboard & the handbrake being on the right (especially confusing if you have the 2 seat version, there's nothing where you'd expect them to be)

I'd have no problem with that. My car's a left hooker, my wife's is a semi-auto RHD and the van's a manual RHD. So I'm totally ambidextrous when it comes to driving!! :D

Yeah i was recently looking at them as was going to get a dispatch/expert as my next van up from an older style combo... They drive really well and are a nice size BUT there wasn't a massive amount of difference in size from what i already had - just a little bit more height and length...

I also look at a ford transit LWB hi top connect which was pretty much identical to the dispatch in height and load space but the company didn't adivse them as they said certain models had lots of issues and going for either the dispatch or bigger with s SWB Transit would be better...

In the end i got a good deal on the SWB transit and means i don't have to worry about upgrading to something bigger as soon.... Oh and all my staging and additional trussing fits in too....

Yeah it was similar to me... The price of a new transit to lease wasn't a great deal different to what i was looking at buying BUT i could get more features and comforts and engine power (like 100ps rather than 75ps) by getting something a couple of years older than i could on the new model...

So i went down the route of getting one around 54/04 rather than 07 and really happy with my choice....

If you want daz you can have a look at it at BPM... although i presume you know what the inside of a transit looks like etc...
