What amp? Help!!

I am Looking for a quality amp producing 600W at 8 ohms per side. I want it drive my mackie z300x's. I have a Crown K2 running JBL subs and want something with a lot more drive than my Beringher EP2500 that I am currently using.

Can anyone suggest a model that will fit the bill. I do not need light weight or DSP just a top sound

I know it's 700w, but what about a Yamaha P7000s? http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=2274 I use the 500w version (P5000s) & they are a great little amp. Also as they have a built in high & low pass filters on the rear there is no need for a crossover. I've actually run a mono signal into mine & set the left channel to run the tops & the right to run subs at 4 ohms, worked a treat.

Did you mean Mackie C300z? I can't find a Z300x on Google.

If so, don't forget they are a 300w speaker & that the 600w is peak power. I would suggest the P5000s is a more than capable amp for these speakers.

Yes it is the C300z. The reason I was looking for 600w is that this is the figures the manual said I should be going for to get the optimum from them. I will have a look at Yamahas though. Thanks for that.

Have a look at the QSC plx range. They are top quality sound and light weight.

I've used my yam to power c300zs before, at a gig that both Angela & Ian8limelight were at, they can tell you how it coped better than me (as I was behind the speakers & they were in front)

To be honest I don't see that a 600w per channel amp is going to make a lot of difference. The EP2500 is 500w rms at 8 ohms which is plenty to power the C300z. If you are finding that they aren't loud enough, there must be something else wrong with your set up. They are also a pretty good amp for the money. An extra 100w is not going to make a noticeable difference.

I have been offered a Crown 2000 XTI at a reasonable price. This is 475 Watt at 8 Ohms seeing as it is disco/dance music and not a Live Band do you think this give me the quality at high volumnes?

Yes, I think you will almost definitely notice a difference with a Crown amp. The sound quality will be an improvement.

I was going to say that as well- whats the problem with the Behringer?

Surely thats got more power than the Speakers could ever cope with?

Ricesnaps has one and drives Four Cabs with it and its pretty loud--ive heard it.

While the Behringher is a great amp especially in terms of value for money I have two and not had a problem in nearly 2 years. I now just run the Mackies using the Crown and no subs when I do smaller (up to 70 or so functions) and the difference in sound quality is very noticeable. Its not that the EP2500 is poor in this area, it just that the crown gives that much more definition.

What I am after is this sound when I have my whole rig running.

I am now the proud owner of a Crown 4000 xti for my tops to go with the Crown K2 I had been using for the Bass.

The clarity and control using Software in realtime via USB is amazing.

Make sure you have some kind of backup as I've been reading of a few problems with these amps on other forums.

I would question why they are selling the XTI so cheap. There have been many issues with the XTI range, have a look at Crowns own forum lots of complaints and issues on there, also other DJ forums have reported problems, not isolated incidents.

Thanks, I take the EP2500 with me.

The problems were for models manufactured before Sept 2007 and can be resolved with an firmware update. Mine was made in Oct so should be OK. Crwon come with a no quibble three year warrenty so I feel comfortable with that.

There were also probems with the ribbon cable coming adrift, One amp took out a DJs four sub bass's. And there are also issues with Harman, who are Crown's repair centre.
