Having worn contact lenses for nearly 25 years, I finally went to Moorfields last night for laser eye surgery.

It will take a few days to really improve, as everything is still a bit blurry & soft focus, but the early signs are very good.

Today I drove without glasses or lenses for the first time in my life, and my lenses & glases have gone in the bin...which gave me a great feeling.

It's early days, but it seems like it will be the best £3,500 I've ever spent.

Now I just need a few more bookings to pay for it! :p

I'll keep you informed on how things progress.

Yes Tony, I was completely awake for the whole thing, but I didn't feel anything, as I had anaesthetic drops in my eyes.

Just as well, really...coz I don't do pain!!!

just out of intrest why did it cost so much money. also congrats on getting your eyes fixed. must be over the moon now. now all yu have to do is knock back 10 pints and it would be like old times again :p :D

That's why I went to Moorfields...the largest & oldest specialist eye hospital in the world, and my surgeon was Dr Julian Stevens...who is often quoted in newspaper & magazine articles about laser eye surgery...as he's one of the top laser eye surgeons in the country.

That expertise & experience comes at a price...hence the £3,500 fee - although it's still a small price to pay for 20/20 vision (or BETTER) for the rest of my life.

i totally understand. you only want the best. but i best if must of looked odd. having your eye cut open and being told that the laser being shon into your eye is safe. just remember not to do it with a 100mw laser. :lol:

I'm tempted to say it's like booking a disco. £500 may seem a bit dear, but would you really trust the £50 one who nobody knows?:p

YES THERES BEEN A FEW NASTY MISTAKES WITH THE LASER !!!!!!!!

Would you pay £100 for a disco if it was REALLY important.

Same factors involved.

You might end up paying 3 times or more to be sure.

Dont blame you and good luck with it.

I just thought of something.....

For tax purposes with your business, you can claim for all sorts of things, including clothing (not that I bother).

I wonder if I could claim a small percentage of my eye surgery fee as a business expense?

It would certainly be worthwhile - even if I could only claim 5% of the cost.

What do you think?

Charge a percentage as 'appearance related items'.

I had some dental work done a couple of years back and blagged 50% of it because half of it was necessary, the other half was cosmetic - replacing amalgam fillings with white; couple of crowns over crooked teeth that kind of thing. 'twas an accountant that put it through and it was never questioned.

OK not a massive amount but I think the taxman contributed about £200 ;)
