3ft mirror ball.

I have a customer who want's to light a 3 ft mirror ball in the middle of the room with lights from my set. This will be some distance away.....so some kinda of spot or spots are needed..........??

Can anyone suggest anything...??

Not sure really from a Disco point of view.. only know it from a theatre prospective.. and those lights are slightly different....
unless you hired in a couple? (mac 250s = 100 a week).

Or some Par cans.. but not sure if they would do the job really..

Scanners, gobo's stuff like that.....nothing to light that up really......
So looking to buy some good 250w lights that hold there own.

Train of thought is to take lights i already use and whatever to light the mirror ball up........think the mirror ball will hold it's own with just some lights placed on it........:)

Yes and no.
if it was on the rig i would agree.. but it is in the middle of the room so 1) the scanners wont be able to do their normal 'job' and they may not actually be able to hit the ball due to tilt limitations.

Think VNSP may be a bit too small.. hence why i suggested NSP.

Could get away with two.. but it depends.. also it is worth getting more than two.. so you can have different colours..

Shame you cannot get the ball lit from the back aswell 2 from the front and two from the back.vnsp should be fine as the beam will get abit bigger over the distance.

I'm in the moving head camp; even if you bought a couple of the cheapie MV250s / imove 5's these would do the trick.

As mentioned 4 would be ideal - 2 from the front and 2 from the rear (or sides) but that's getting expensive unless you hire or borrow.

I have a 50cm ball that I hang from a giraffe tripod usually high up in the corner of a room lit by a couple of heads from the disco rig - works a treat for weddings and silver annys etc. - so well in fact I'm thinking of getting a second then I can have the beams from the heads 'criss-cross' effect as well.

Hi do this all the time with our 1m ball we use follow spots on stands from the corners follow spots have 575 lamp and have colour mag and good focus options

I had a couple of those, but the 150w versions. I think I only used them twice and then sold them.... I think they look good on mirrorball though. Make sure they are spot lenses rather than fresnel though.

The wash lights use a Fresnel lens, which diffuses the light and spreads it over a wide area. The spot lights use a convex lens (or profile lens) that focuses the beam of light, so you get a nice sharp image.

It is some distance away.. and a 1 metre ball... i do happen to doubt that 2 of those lights would do it justice

Hi Sam i sub hire from Themes in Glastonbury i dont know the make i think there are FAL from Italy cost £25 per day have a HMI 575 Lamp very bright we have lit the 1m ball from 40-50m away and it looks amazing you can focus so theres no overspill we used this system at Glastonbury its the proper way to light a ball this big.

Hi do you mean small spot lights like pins or such like a 1m mirror ball needs some serious lighting to have any effect you have to cover the whole surface with bright light to cover the venue in laymans terms like a search light is the best way to describe it and you usually are a fair distance away so it has to have plenty of power.
