Hi Guys

I have recently been playing with pcdj fx on the laptop and finding my way round it . I have got to grips with the automix facility to a degree im ok setting up elapsed time automix and time remaining automix heres the question...

How do you set up the beat matching automix facility I have found where it is on the configuration panal but cant get it to do an auto beatmix between tracks .... can anyone shed any light on an idiots guide to how to get the program to actually perform this?

also I have on order a maya external soun card (please don't tell the wife) do i need to do anyhting special to configure this to work with pcdj? ive read the manual and found the bit on the configuration panal where you can assign which channels to each player is it really that easy or will i need to do lots of fiddley bits when the maya arrives?

many thanks for your help on these matters.

Dave, I rang PCDJ directly on setting up and they were most helpful.

Do you have a quality issue playing out directly off the laptop?

Mine sounds fine.

thanks for that crazy ive only played the laptop through the system once and it was ok after i fiddled with volumes what i did notice was that to get no distortion on the sound it was noticably less volume than when i play out through the cortex .... im hoping the maya will help this though.

will try ringing today on the beatmix thing.

thanks again.

DAVE, I know what you mean about volume--but there must be plenty of poke in the Mackie System?

Doesnt appear to be a volume problem with the Peaveys plus Bass Bins.

Last Xmas when a nice Asian guy said can he put his lappie into my system--loud --just a bit!

Maybe its because of the Mackie SETTINGS ?

Are you reaching max volume then to get anywhere?

For what sound cards cost I guess its pointless arguing really---

i find that if i have the mixer volume to what i usually have it and use the pc volume to stop the distortion the volume is less than with cortex if that makes sense ? set the mixer the same for both and use pc volume control and master volume on pcdj to get it clear maybe wrong way round??

ok new maya44 external soundcard in my posession ......... what does the forum technical numpty do with it now??? any help appreciated?

is it as easy as plugging in the usb and then connecting up channel 1 and 2 on the mixer to channel 1/2 3/4 on the maya then in the configuration panel on pcdj fx assigning player 1 to channel 1/2 on the maya and player 2 to 3/4??

or do i have to install the card and do fiddley bits on the laptop in order to make things happen?

thank you all very much for your help and time on this.

Hi Dragonfly, have a look at the link below if you are having problems setting up your soundcard with pcdj.

http://www.pcdj.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1043

They are talking about the gigaport sound card, I am not sure if it works the same way as the maya 44. But from what they are saying you should be connecting up channel 3/4 for the right cd player and channel 7/8 for the left cd player.

I am sure if I have made a mistake on this someone will come along with the right settings.

good luck.

Forget about it, it really isno good at beat matching, you need PCDJ VJ for that
also I have on order a maya external soun card (please don't tell the wife) do i need to do anyhting special to configure this to work with pcdj? ive read the manual and found the bit on the configuration panal where you can assign which channels to each player is it really that easy or will i need to do lots of fiddley bits when the maya arrives?
Set player 1 to chan 1+2 set player 2 to chan 3+4 then both to 1+2 under channels

many thanks for your help on these matters.

hope that helps, i think the maya comes with a disc, load the driver then install the sond card as any other, i use a pci card but from memory i think its the same for the usb, then leave the settings as default, this will override the pc volume control. You may want to mute the mic etc under the windows sound settings.

thanks for that was just wondering if i needed to install the disk as when i plugged the maya in it popped up as new hardware found then new hardware installed? as if it did it on its own. so assigned player 1 to channel 1/2 and 2 to 3/4 but lost the laptop sound doing this .... not tested it through the system yet so don't know if its working or not.

thanks again everyone getting there slowly.

other daft question do i just link maya to mixer with normal phono to phono leads as normal?

Yes.
You will lose the normal windows sound when this is plugged in, as the sound is diverted to the Maya

awesome !!! totally brilliant .... thank you all massively for all the tips and hints you have given me ..... the bass end through the maya is just stunning and i only used my 450s tonight .

the cortex to me sounds good but this knocked spots off it .. need a ground loop isolater for the second channel but thats pence and i think i will up the ram just to help and try and make sure of smooth running.

but if i can get the latop totally reliable and stable i will be swapping to it and using cortex as back up. im really really impressed with the sound.

Excellent--ill give a ring sometime next month when it slows down a bit to have a chat.

If your getting hum--doesnt the isolator cover all channels?

Is it strange its on one channel only?

Or maybe not?

under the windows volume in task bar, you can try muting some of the options like mic, master volume etc see if that gets rid of the hum, also make sure you have some good phono cables. I personally prefer a desk top pc to a laptop as it is easier to upgrade and generally are better spec. And wasn't it nice to have a monitor /screen to see the music rather than the minute display on the cortex.
When you get used to FX, i would suggest upgrading to PCDJ VJ or Virtual DJ.
Great for mixing and very stable software.

Ive assigned each player on pcdj to a different channel on the mixer player 1 is channel 1 and has a ground loop isolator between the sound card and mixer , player 2 is channel 2 and just has the phono connection from the card to mixer no ground loop isolator so this is the one i get a hum from. but as i said the bass response from the maya is much better than from the cortex i got a really good punch even from 12" bass drivers on the 450s.

looked at pcdj vj and not sure my laptop would be compatible as it says you need 3 ghz and my laptop is only 2.7 ghz i think and only capable of 1gb of ram which i think is too low for the program??

na, your laptop will be fine, look at the minimum spec they give lol:D
but if you are not wanting to play videos stick with fx, it's a great program.
Don't forget to re-skin your fx to fit your skin resolution, they do a good dac 3 skin.

As PCDJ Red ( which I have) is a mixer itself with tone, volume and cross fade/ mixing controls--wouldnt you put both decks through the isolator and control the volume and mixing on the laptop with a mouse?

With the Cortex I use separate channels because you can accidentally start one channel when the other is playing:eek:

Or does the sound card mean you cant do that? Dont have one--yet.

Thats what I do when taking the out signal straight from the headphone socket on the Laptop.

Havent used the Laptop on a gig yet, only as back up to Cortex.

Crazy yes i could assign both players to one channel on the mixer and just use 1 isolator but the maya has the option of more than one output channel so i have assigned each player a channel each , have a 4 channel mixer after all. and for the price of another isolator about 4 quid this will stop any accidental playing of the other player while say im searching for a song.

plus its easier to fiddle with my proper mixer than the one incorporated in pcdj ....

and running through one channel would make it impossible to cue a track
