Im currently doing a national diploma in engineering and i now feel this is not for me :( . I wont to go on to do a sound and light course, i cant seem to find any info on a college that does these courses Im located in blackpool. thanks guys and girls really appreciated:)

I don't think that there are any sound and light courses avaliable at the moment, why not try and get on with an employer maybe installation or hires and learn on the job

Courses do exist but are not that common.. (not sure what Will did)..
However undergrad courses such as Ba Hons Lighting Design (which is looked more highly upon than a lowercollege course) at Rose Bruford say this:
Are you interested in:
* Live performance
* visual arts and creativity
*making this with and for other people
Are you:
*creative
*Self motivated
*flexible thinker
*practical
*problem solver
Are you currently
* studying studying Btex / Alevels etc in - tech theatre / drama, media, music technology, art, photography, sciences OR working in the live performance industry as a technician
Getting to the point.. this shows there are a number of ways into this course.
EG. Do Physics & Electronics A Levels, Do a course in techy stuff, Do a drama course or get a job as a Technician (eg. casual job at local theatre)

suggest calling someone like manchester midi school for some directions as well. they may well be able to push you in right directions soundwise, even Point blank may be able to help. I will have a word with a few friends and let you know but most of it does get taught buy the likes of installation companies

You need to look for Stage Management courses.
Are you at a college? Well, speak to the Performing Arts people, especially the technicians. If your college doesn't do it, check local area as well.
Buy yourself a copy of The Stage newspaper (W.H. Smith sell this) and look for courses or positions as a junior stage hand at a theatre nearby. There are plenty of venues in Blackpool that could want a spare pair of hands. Once in, you can get advice & help from the crew.

other thing to point out is.. you will generally be hard pressed to find a technician (casual or full) if your under 18.. and especially if you 16 or under.. health and safety and that jazz.
They don't seem to mind that I'm 17.. but a lot of people get turned away from theatres for being too young.

yeah very trie about health and safety... my mate owns an installation company and he has a young lad who is working for him who is 16, Yes he knows a hell of alot about lights and sound but is limited to what he can do due to health and safety.
young lad? Your only 19!
The main issue is that of responsibility..
Eg. Tieing off fly ropes etc

Well you know what i mean, ive had a few different jobs and worked in the big wide world lol...
Well yeah there is alot of responsability rigging up moving heads, stage blinders ect
woop.
Actually the main problem is the risk to others.. not the equipment. If you kill someone.. because you tied the rope in the flys wrong.....
And stop being a parrot lol!

You could apply at the BBC.
I did years ago and one of the things thy asked for was an interest in music and it actually said on the info they sent me, an interest in running a mobile disco would be useful!
