been put in an awkward situation.....very close to securing the highest paid job i've ever done.....but the customers in question have asked to see me perform before they commit! As nearly all of my forthcoming gigs are private functions.....and i do it all over the place.....the closest one to them is going to be a good 7o mile trek(one way)

I did a £100 special to secure a residency at a local yacht club. I was new to the island at that point and they'd never heard of me, so fair enough.

Cover your costs and if it goes pear shaped then nothing lost except your time!

I know Crazy K does this successfully maybe drop him a pm and have a chat , the only times I have let someone come and see me at a venue is when I have been able to set up early, afternoon for arguments sake and said they can come down between 5 and 6 for a look at the set up and a listen to what i do,

you also have to stress that because what you do is customer focussed what you are doing at someone elses party may not be to their liking and therefore not a true representation of what you can do to fill their specific requirements.

To be honest sandy I would not undertake such a request unless they were lving local!!! I suggest using your testimonials with phone numbers. If that is not enough charge them for a preview???? your putting yourself out for them.

just thing they are trying to find out what they are gettgin which is understandable.

what you are doing at someone elses party may not be to their liking.this is very true,ive tried to explain this to people before and most of them accept that.If its a wedding they might want to make sure that they have the right person for the job and i can understand that point of view.

What's wrong with just taping your gear and set up..........you dont have to be behind it.............

wouldnt necessarily say slow ..... just maybe of the incorrect opinion that a disco is a disco .... go out every week with the same lights do the same thing play the same music ...... not a service that listens to its customers and caters for the requirements of an individual, maybe someone wants a club feel with heavy bass and lasers etc and someone else low key lighting with a classy feel and smoother lower sound.

plus i watched a video on youtube the other day where the advice was ...... don't gaffa tape your lights to your truss :confused: :confused: :D :D

I GET ASKED QUITE A LOT

You would be surprised at the response from a lot of people--EVEN at Weddings. people have massive egos--the idea that someone might come along to their SUCCESSFUL event can be quite a turn on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just secured my best paid Party by inviting a client along--if you use a soft professional approach you will be surprised--

But then sometimes they dont turn up---and the party organiser is often disappointed---honestly---I thought you had some people coming to look at MY FANTASTIC PARTY---

Its all to do with egos:D :D :D

Thats satisfied customers who dont mind giving a recommendation.

Every time you do a great job and they shake your hand or kiss you- just say would you mind if any of my customers phoned for a reco---they are NOT going to say NO are they?

OR

Get some serious vid clips--:D

I have noticed that since I have been sending a vid clip plus 3 customers to ask for a recommendation with quotes--- there has only been one request to see me live and I have taken 6 Wedding bookings without any query---which did not used to be the case last year.

Maybe it works???????????

We have been asked many times, but only once have we ever agreed, and that was because we had a gig coming up where we had become very friendly with the B&G and I knew they wouldn't mind in the slightest, so I didn't mind asking them. We also knew that the gig would be of a similar type - ie general size and feel and musical requirements. Every other time someone has asked, I've always explained that because we are at private functions, we can't just invite someone along to someone else's wedding, and also explained that it wouldn't necessarily be what they were after anyway because we tailor the show to their wants. As an alternative, we offer pictures, video clips, customer references - and we haven't lost a gig yet as a result of not allowing someone along to another gig! :D
