Got a customer feedback form today for a wedding at the beginning of September. To set the context this was one of the 3 or 4 most expensive gigs of the year because of early setup, tricky access, no parking etc. - you know the score.

Anyway, form came back with the following comments in the 'free text' area:

"Everyone had a superb evening. I think the service provided and the follow-up afterwards with the DVDs was absolutely brilliant for what we paid. Compared to other wedding services you were very cheap!"

Hmmm... still get the "how much?!" brigade with alarming regularity though...

I think this customer was drawing a comparison between venue hire (£££££), catering (££££), cake (£££), photography (££), dresses (££) and disco (p).

Yet if we try to charge ££ (or even £!) then we get asked to justify the cost!

I'd imagine things are a little cheaper in the Isle of Wight, than London, where I'm based, but looking at your price structure on your website, I'd still say your prices are way too cheap. Still, I understand if it's a matter of not getting work, you have to compromise.

If I could suggest one thing, maybe you could have a little more consistency with your lighting setup, because the Sound Check video on your website was crazy...Maybe just a little too much going on and not synchronized enough. I've got nowhere near as many lights as you, but all mine are from the same manufacturer (Abstract) and DMXed together, which helps maintain a light show.

That's good feedback though, and I'm still amazed you even provide a free DVD. With VectisVibe Platinum from £185...When you say "from £185", what does $185 get you?

Agree... but the video is from a kids party and that's what works. A wedding will normally be a lot more subtle and under DMX control unless they specifically request manic - had a 90's techno wedding recently so it was lasers smoke and scanners all round and it looked really cool to see all these folks in full wedding gear leaping around like loons.[/QUOTE]

The full works... you name it, you get it. It is a "from" figure though, and if you run the quote for a typical July wedding with the bells & whistles that normally get added it comes out in the £300-400 range. £185 is most definitely for off-season where I have to compete with hordes of £60-a-night holiday hotel DJs with time on their hands.
