Yes, I know this has possibly been asked many times in the past but I would like to know the official version on music licences.

When I originally bought my gear, the guy in the shop said I only needed licences if I was playing from a lap top.

Somebody then tells me I need to purchase a PPL licence, and then sombody else says you only need one of these if you are doing anything other than family occasions, Wedings, Christenings, Birthday parties etc. (Invitation only non charging events).

So who do I believe? What do I need to purhcase etc?
