can you get a 15" that runs 800 watts? Normally you would find that wattage with 18" Wouldn't you?????. I rodie for a guy that had Martin audio speakers, they sound like the dogs' but they are about 1200 watts dual 18" drivers.

i could manage with 600 watts but just dont want to be lumping around big 18inch bins as trying to downsize

RCF ART 705-AS. I worked with a band that had a pair and plugged my decks into them (and a pair of RCF ART312A tops). The bass was fantastic, tight, clear and chest thumping. They are active 800w.

For 15" they are some of the best subs I have heard.

Try these, £275 each and I heard them recently in a packed pub, they only had two and I was extremely impressed. The bass was so powerful it was beyond belief.

Maybe because this thread is about 15" bass bins and not 12" tops :) . As for going off Mackies, I've never liked them. When they first came out they were better than most available at the price but other manufacturers have got better and Mackies have got worse since they swapped manufacture from Woodinville, Washington to China. Early versions used RCF components where the latter use Chinese components. The design is getting on for 8 years old and there is better out there now, in my opinion, even Warrior actives sound better.

Yawn....I've heard this soooooo many times, How anyone can tell the difference between components fron different countries is beyond me. They were made in Italy - Mackie are based in Woodville.

By listening to original Mackies and the Chinese versions side by side (I know people with both versions and we tried it). They do sound different, the Chinese versions are harsher at high volumes and the sound isn't as full as the originals.

Original speaker components were made by RCF in Italy but the electronics were made in the US.

Link to Mackie in Woodinville not Woodville :) http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Mackie+Woodinville&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Fair enough, if you have done a side by side comparison and you can hear a difference - most people wouldn't though. My point is that there is a lot of snob value to where things are made, produced and put together.

How many times over the years have I heard people say that lighting was better 'cos it was made in India raher than China etc etc.

Sub15 by DB are rated to 800watts rms with a class H amp onboard. Very good sub and one of the lightest for a powered sub on the market.

Why not put together your own bass bin ?

I bought a 15 inch speaker and put together a box.

Depending on the speaker you might need a crossover inside the box too.

I didnt need a crossover as I put the bass bin through a different channel on the mixer and turn the treble right down.

there is a lot more to it then buying a speaker chassis and just sticking it in a box. you have got to take into account the volume of the box and tuning. E.G. if you buy a transducer with a fs of 39hz and tune the box to 37hz then your going to have problems with excursion as the the driver becomes unloaded an d has no back pressure to stop the cone traveling to far, this often results in death to the speaker!

turning the treble right down aint really a crossover a proper bass bin is cut off at the most 150-180hz reading your previous posts i got the impression your were highly experienced with this kind of thing? even the most basic of sound knowledge would tell you that you need to have a low pass filter.

Well, as no one has "mentioned it" - how about Mackie SWA1501's. I only use 1 and the sound is awesome. You should be able to pick a pair up for around £1000-£1100ish. Compact and powerful (500W each). Best thing is to go to a shop and ask for demos of different bins. If they know your gonna spend a grand I'm sure they'll be pretty helpful.

Both the RCF Art 705a and the EV SBA760 are considered fantastic and the best of the 15" active bass bins, both are about £800 each though.

You don't have to lug big cabs about these days it's quiet posable to get an 1 x 18" cab thats portable (like I have) and B & C do drivers up to 1000watts now (both 15" & 18")

I use 2 x 1 x 18" cabs rated at 1000watts each and the bass is totally awesome!(I drive them with a QSC PLX3402) but I sorted the cabs myself and loaded them myself total cost to me was about £500 the pair and the cabs are birch ply not mdf which most stuff seems to be made of these days!

it's really easy if you build your own kit (sorry)

As a very general rule, sensitivity is in inverse proportion to power handling. If it can handle 3Kw easily, 150w isn't going to sound very loud!

Take my word for it there very loud & in the right cab very low! these are the drivers that turbosound & martin audio use they also do an 18" (at 1000watts & 2000watts) & a 21" (1500watts & 3000watts!)
oh! & a 1000watt 12"

I build a lot of cabs for clients and the B&C & Pds are often the chosen drivers of the client but for my own choice i use Beyma worth checking out.

I understand were you are coming from and agree yes there is a lot of snob value . But i have been in this game a lot longer than most people and if i am going to spend my hard earned money it has to be on gear that is going to stand up to the rigors of life on the road i find nothing more frustrating than gear that lets you down or your always having to mend also you have to take in to consideration the resale value as we all like to change the look of the show now and then in the end of the day its the old adage you get what you pay for ,thats why the forum is such a useful tool as we can share are thoughts and findings with others and give what we believe good advice before you buy a load of junk.

Instead of starting a new thread i thought i would use this existing thread.

My new DB Sub 15 arrived to day and im extreamly impressed. Had it at half volume and everything on my room was shaking and downstairs stuff was falling off the shelfs. If i can get that at lets say 400 watts rms (being half volume) i wonder what it would be like at full wack. It had 2 nicks in the paint work so i got a black pen and coloured them in. Apart from that, a very happy bunny. I bought it from sounds live. orded it wednesday and it came today. good stuff
