As said previously, I went to DFB last night and got a pair of these. How much? Not too much I think. Has anyone got full instructions for these, the website for zoom tells me how to fit bulbs, and not a lot more. Thanks for your answers folks.

Is it any good, and how do you make it work? Of the two I've bought, one is superbly in focus, but does not rotate, and the other is out of focus, and rotates and functions superbly in every other way. I must admit, my in depth evaluation was simply to plug them in tonight, before the hordes of skeletons,Draculas and witches descended on me!:eek: The workings of the remotes seems curious.:confused:

I've just used the Cubist as plug & play.

Had a try with a CA8, which was faulty so I haven't seen the the full show.

There should be a knob on the front (under the lens) to turn for focus.

Yes, I've been twiddling that merrily. These came with a remote each. It says strobe as one option, but I don't believe it. :confused:

I don't think there is a strobe on the Cubist & I honestly can't see why anyone would want it to. A bit pointless with that type of effect IMHO.

What do you think of them anyway?

Right. Yes of course there is no strobe, but the remote says there is!:confused: The non rotating one has been coerced into life by jer jer jer jer jer jer jiggling it Granville.;) The out of focus one has the light occluded
( what a good word after 3pints of rocket fuel real ale) by the colour filter!
The one which is working fully is a great effect, bright, really understated, good for venues with high ambient light. If I can get the second one as good I will be a happy bunny. Did I mention the Acme Duet I bought? If it only needs the bulb replacing in the other side as I hope/suspect it is atruly awesome piece of kit. I have never seen a single light fill a room so well! My next lightiong purchase will definitely be the 250w version! :D

If the remote is the same as the Acme version it's just a "one size fits all" CA8 type thing, they have all the functions you can get from them printed on them. You just don't necessarily get them all from all the lights they're compatible with.

I don't think they're supposed to have a colour filter (other than the moving one that makes it look like the gobo is moving) Why not take it out?

Update: After a little help from my friends Mr Pliers, and Mr Screwdriver, number two light is 95% good. The reflector was mis-aligned, cutting off 60% off the light. A bit of brute force, and it's much better.

Steve: The supplied controller appears to be a CA-8 with a different coat on!
After a more leisurely setup and play,( and info from sellers website) I can now see what it does. I like the facility to turn the lamp off from it. :D

Further update, a £10 ELV Lighting teansformer, and now the Duet is firing on both cylinders! £50 and a bit of fiddling, not bad I feel.

Yes, the Cubists/Virusators certainly are, and for £120 per pair, I am now a happy bunny. They give a very nice relaxed effect, with movement, yet not frantic. I think they will go well in high ambient light venues, for a sort of laid back style.
