Minimum set up

Maybe there is a question to ask.... not so much a "willy waving" competition but athe opposite.

What gear is the minimum you could go out with and do a job you would be happy with?

No massive stadiums, no high maintenance jobs... say a 40th birthday for 100 guests in a village hall.

I'll start with 2 CD decks, mixer, 200w amp, 2x 10" speakers on stands and 2 scanners on a T bar.

I'd take my usual rig, as this is the kind of job I cater for - and just add a few more lights.

I work alone too, so less is better for me to have to move in and out of the venue.

For 100 people -

2x400-500w full range (i.e. 15") speakers. (Although much prefer using subs too..)
Couple of effective lights (2 spins/datamoons/twisters).
Normal playout and backup.

well id feel naked with no lights so probably a t bar and 2 moonflowers would be minimum and usual sound system

2 x 350w tops, one 350w sub, dnhd 2500, mixer, dual cd player, amp, mic, headphones, 2 rovers & a falcon, ultimax 4ft stand, and of course back up stuff too.

Ooops - sorry - my basic rig is pretty much what he stated - 2 x 300w cabs, Amp, Numark CM100 mixer plus dual CDs and add to it my Acme 4 Gobo set and sometimes a pair of subs and the laptop with PCDJ.

One of my regular venues hold 120 people max and in there I use 2 x Mackies, starcloth booth, Ultimax stand with 4 foot bar, with Martin EFX500 and 2 x led pars.

and i bet no one has once said that its not sufficient in either sound or lighting if anything bet they have said the opposite.

I tend to use 2 15" full range tops, 4 abstract XP lighting effects on a giraffe Dj stand, Usual playout, mixer cases. Nice and easy and handles up to 120 people.

My minimum would be 2 mackie c300z's my giraffe stand with only 6ft of overhead truss. 2 vango diamonds 2 vango arcs. And usual playout system d2 cortex amps etc.

Also to compact my set up and keep it to a minimum sometimes i use 4 Led pinspots and 2 abstract twisters mounted on the giraffe deck stand

Small pub jobs or upstairs functions its 2 twisters on a t-bar and 2 full range speakers on tripods.

For me, for the stated gig, minimum would be a pair of Peavey Pro-15's, one Prosub, amp, laptop, d2, mixer, 4 foot deckstand. Lighting would be starcloth, 2 moons, 1 dynaroll, 2 other lights eg. stormbirds or dynamos and maybe 2 small lasers depending on crowd. Plus a hazer.

To be honest Minimum set up would be basics amps, decks, speakers x 2, and 2 light effects only diference being karaoke night either no lights or just a bare minimum of 1 light with the basics thats about it??? Pubs are fussy with karaoke??

I do kids parties with Numark CM100 Mixer, CD players (inc case they bring a nursery CD which has happened), PCDJ laptop, 200w a side amp, 2 cabs, 2 Acme Excercets, Couple of Vasto-type lights and a rope light.

Often have the radio mic with me so I can go onto the dancefloor to help with games, etc. Set PCDJ up with loads of kids/party stuff and have autoplay running and the mixer on auto-duck for my mic so I can talkover if required. Works well and means I can be out front while the music plays itself.

CD Players
Mixer
Laptop
Amp
Bottom half of ultimate stand (no overhead rig)
2x Mackie C300Z on stands
2x iColour 4 on stands

And for small functions never had any comments that it's not enough, but been praised for how tidy it looks.

Probably my playout system which is always the same regardless, my (new!) SRM 450s and a couple of twisters on a t-bar.

I'm not so sure if I'd be 'happy' with it, it depends on the size and height of the hall.
