View Full Version : Dodgy electricity supply?

I havent had a problem with dirty supplies previously described by Alan (Propellorheadcase)

Might have tonight though--played a small Hall in Chelmsford and noticed about every 20 minutes a noise across the high frequency horns that sounded like breaking glass---really weird noise.

Also noticed on my dig camera when switched on and viewing the room the screen picture was fluttering slightly--but not when I got back home:eek:

The previous night I used it to take vid clips and it was perfect--spooky eh?

I dont know if this is a coincidence or if maybe part of my kit is suspect--or was it the large number of strip lights in the room?

There was also a warm air heating system on a thermostat which might have been cutting in a and causing the speaker noise.

Is there any device that can cut out the noise problems?

Needless to say the caretaker of the Hall said--no one else has mentioned this :bang:

As you said, the thermostat could be causing the noise in the speakers and being HF would explain why it sounds like breaking glass (I think).
I'm far (very far) from being an expert in electrics but the flickering camera screen sounds like an electro-magnetic feild in the building. How did the photos turn out?
By the way. Did you look in the mirror to see if your hair was standing as if you rubbed a balloon on it :daft: :D :D :D

Bit of flickering on the vid replay--but camera now back to normal

Your right--- I actually seem to have lost a lot of my hair on checking:D

RCDs and power conditioners help with the audio artefacts of dodgy power.

I, being also an 'Alan', more than make up for any short-comings that the other Alan (Crazy K) may have ;)

Not having read all of this thread in one go (ie coming back to it just to read the last post) it took me a second to realise that Alan (propeller) was referring to 'hair' and not just generally putting down Alan (Crazy K) in that last post!!!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Tested my equipment tonight--absolutely perfect--no noises at all.

As suspected it was either the electrics in the Hall or a thermostat switching on and off.

So what is there realistically I could use to stop this noise cutting over the HF speakers?

Alan what are power conditioners and do you carry one to each gig?
