Love hate and surprise.

Things you love, things you hate, and things that surprise you.

Surprises:Tonight, I went into a Posh Golf Club ( is there another sort) which is short on space, to find virtually none at all. Having spent 3 hours sat on my CD's I was in a real mood! And lo and behold, the punters proceed to dance non-stop all night, ask for me to wind the volume up to seriously interesting levels, and proclaim me to be absolutely wonderful!:D From less than promising beginnings come great nights, eh?
Also on surprises, I bought a Giraffe deckstand, for one venue mainly, expecting to use it very little. It has been out more than the normal gear recently. Also the small PA was upgraded to make it less of a poor relation to the main one, and yes it too is going out more than the suposedly main PA!

Hates: People who ant to use a mic, and instead of waiting to use the one intended for the purpose, which you are about to hand them, grab the mic stand, and wrench it their mouth, upsetting your careful placement! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad: :mad: :mad:

Love - I love it when people are laughing, dancing and having a great time.

Hate - I hate it when people dont wish to dance, keep asking for songs which i dont have and they keep asking for them every 10 minutes and keep dancing to close to my equipment.

Surprise - I did a kids school disco and played oops up side ya head. 90% of the kids sat down and did the dance with no adults showing them what to do. This is the first time ever this has happened.

Hate : When a guy comes and leans over my gear to shake my hand but drips his pint over my mixer. The time that happened i was not amused. Im thinking of putting a small sign on the board telling people not to lean over the front but come round the side if they want anything.

Surprise : When i am asked to play a request that i dont think people will like but instead they go crazy for it.

I will probably mention this elsewhere, but my solution is a plywood folding screen, known affectionately as " The Chobham Armour". So far it has exceeded expectations in keeping me and the gear separate from unbalanced punters, and their drinks! I'm now working on the 6ft tall Mk2!;) :D :D

I thought about attaching a perspex screen to the top of the front board to stop them from leaning over but i could still see them.

Yep, me too, though mine was going to tilt back over the top of the mixer so the physical barrier was between the mixer and the beer, not me and the punter ;)

Love 1: Hot girls going out of their way to dance nice and close to each other and the DJ booth ;) Mostly, but not always, at school balls, 18ths and 21sts.

Love 2: Significantly older guests dancing to house and/or trance and younger guests (under 18) dancing to classic rock'n'roll and 60s rock.

Hate 1: Demands rather than requests (and even worse when the song is actually worth playing so they'll feel justified about being rude - case in point, Saturday night, Bruce Springsteen 'Dancing in the Dark').

Hate 2: Venue staff who have no sense of decorum or class (like the idiots who turn all of the house lights on in the middle of what has been announced as the last dance, and the manager who tells you that the song you're playing is the last song, especially where the bride and groom have specifically requested their last song)

Surprise: I guess 'Love 2' above counts as surprise, but also, when no-one has danced after the first dance, all night, yet at the end of the night you get "three cheers for the DJ", a dozen requests for cards and numerous people saying "well done" as they're leaving.

Love - Has to be Doing School disco and being reminded that all you taught their parents and grand parents still works no matter how cheesy

Hate - People whom want or think they are to be Future MC's/DJ's and sound s.h.i.t.e no matter how they try???

Hate 2 - People whom try to tell you how to do your job even though you have done it for 20+ years

Suprise - when a tough crowd ends up like putty in your hand to everything you want to play is like gold dust?????
