Newbie from Hull

Hi Guys & Galls

My Name's Chris and i'm from Sunny Hull. I started DJ'ing about three years ago after leaving the comedy showband HouseQuake.

I got fed up with travelling up and down the country week in week out and wanted a change, so now i find myself playing all the best venue's in the city and earning more than I ever did with the band.

I have a full time roadie that comes out with me and have invested a lot of time and money into my equipment which does pay dividends if you intend to play the higher end of the DJ'ing scale i.e corporate events etc.

I am fortunate to live in a city that has some very prestigouse venues.

Would be nice to here from any other local guys (or galls) in the Hull area.

KC Stadium, Forest Pines, Willerby Manor, Country Park, Ramada Jarvis, Hull City Hall, Royal Station Hotel to name but a few all cater for very prestigeuse weddings and high-end corporate events.

Hi, Welcome to the forum, I've only recently started out as a DJ (about 4 months now) but was a musician for about 12 years or so. I'm playing my first gig at the Country Park Inn soon, what is it like? And more to the point, will I need to take my bass bin?

Country park is a very nice venue with a function room that can seat upto 350, So I would say Yes take your bass bin. They do have a lighting gantry above the dance floor with a smoke machine, 20-30 multi-colourd pinspots and a couple of moonflowers fixed onto it, but last time I was there, a lot of the pin spot bulbs had blown and only one of the moonflowers was working, so don't just rely on that for lighting, that is of course you are booked for the function room, they do have a public bar that also ocasionaly has entertainment. But it is a nice place and i've had some great nights working there.

And there we are, many a true word, eh? I didn't know if it was still there! Last time I played it ( over twenty five years ago) it was a wooden hut, with a creaking door!:eek: :D

ill give you the stadium, but country parks looking tired, ramada is nothin special (only 2 star hotel) city hall jobs are few and far between, willerby manor has trees growing out of the toilet cisterns in the talbot suite and an alarm that cuts mains power when the fire exits are opened and station hotels carpets are held together with gaffa tape and the basement suite is flood damaged and they are still using it !!! i was there last month and they had covered the walls in polythene to hide the damp and had dehumidifiers running all day and night.
You didnt mention Tickton Grange or Lazaats both of which, however are very nice venues or the village

Im doing Lazaats this friday. Then Cave Castle Hotel on Sat Night. Country Park inn im doing in about 3 weeks time for 450 guests. (Corporate christmas party)

In the past i have worked with their bose system in country park in but im using my own system.

anyway john can back me up on the tired state of willerby manor and station hotel as i know he has noticed the dodgy toilets as well

I'm new here! and all I was implying is that there are enough "decent venues" in and around the city were a good DJ can earn a decent crust playing at the higher paid jobbies that these venues are capeble of hosting.

Please be aware though, that over the past few months I have been a member on here, it is only peoples opinions (of which every one is entitled to) that people put on here. There have been a few "heated" debates and I'm sure there will be many more - but that's what the forum is about, opinions, views and options.

The ramada jarvis hotel is nice in Hull. Royal hotel again not a bad hotel. As videoguy said. Royal hotel again they have had problems with the flooding in the basement function suite (Windsor Suite)

The only hotel which i thought the function suite wasnt very nice was the Talbot suite at willerby manor as simon described. But its still one of the better venues in the area.

I know a few of us may have a difference of opinion on certain venues. But still. As another mobile dj from Hull i would still like to welcome Videoguy to the forum. As its always nice to speak to other local djs in the area.
