I've been using smaller freestanding screens for a while but I need a single, much bigger screen for one of my regular venues and it needs to be rear projection.
So, looking around the web I fall off my chair at the prices - the cheapest I found that was 8' wide, 6' deep (4:3) and rear-projection was well over £600 - and they go up in price to nearer £1500 :eek:
So I made my own. Only took about 30 minutes. Here's what you need:

One of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_bruecke_plus.htm) - £77 (throw away the T bars - or reuse elsewhere)
Two of these (http://www.thomann.de/gb/doughty_t20104_standard_chaken.htm) - £7
Bungee cords or cloth strapping (to tie the bottom handle to something). I use a long black bungee cord to run from upright to upright via the handle. Sorted.
One 10mm HSS drill bit and a few tools - socket set or a couple of pairs of mole grips. This is to attach the clamps to the bracketry on the screen.
Whole thing goes up in about 5 minutes and is do-able by 1 person.
Giving it a blast tomorrow night so will post a pic or two.
The beauty is that as the screen "hangs" from below the gantry so if you wanted to you could put some lighting across the top too.
Only thing I need to think through now is some kind of bag to protect the screen - I have a prolight stand bag for the 6' stand so I might try that as it's longer than 6'. If not, I should be able to find something for under £30.
