putting up lights on the truss

Just wanted to ask this question .... I have a winch truss so for me its a case of putting up the lights on the cross bar then winching up to the desired height ...

what i wondered was the guys without winches , quite alot i think how do you get your lights up on the truss safely ??

i used to be a stand on a chair person or table but fell off too many to mention so in the interest of my own safety bought a winch job.

do you all carry step ladders for the job? genuine question just wondered as considering changing stands .

Most times I use a goalpost deckstand so don't need any extra height. I'm 5'11" and my roadie is a couple of inches taller.

Sometimes use a larger/higher gantry and on those occasions carry a pair of lightweight aluminium 3-step ladders.

for me i have the frame at the lowest position and i can just about hold the light up with one hand and screw it with another hand. as im holding up 7kg with my thumb i might have to take it to the gym. :lol:

then when all the lights are on i and my roadie lift it up slowly and put in the pins to hold in position then screw it together. its a 4ft giraffe frame btw.

I got a pair of 6ft steps, the only safe way cos the robo scans to heavy to be messing with chairs!

With the prolight deckstand i can reach nicely to put the lights on comfortably, And if i can't reach sometimes i just stand on one of the flightcases for the lights.

Nope I sometimes have a Giraffe Deck Stand with Goal Post.

I bolt the Dynamos, 2 Moonflowers and 4 large Coloured spots on to long necked metal brackets which have a hook shape end and loop them on to the square horizontal bar. No ladder or table necessary. Screw fixing secures in place.

I am 6 foot tall so its not a problem--you might need to stand on a speaker I guess, dont see how you could injure yourself if your careful.

My alternative approach, dont have a deckstand, use venue table plus use two stands one with Moonflowers, one with the four large coloured spots and put Dynamos at floor level which helps avoid excessive glare.

I appreciate you have more effects so need more bar space.

Now this was so obvious that I didn't even bother posting! Basically, with a standard height stand, and clamps on your lights I don't see the problem.

BTW Tom, that's the tricky and dangerous way! ( which I used before I got the clamps). For heaven's sake get some clamps!;)

Yeah I thought that too!

Clamps = the dogs. Hang your lights in seconds far more securely than a simple screw thread & wing nut. Also gives you a couple more inches to play with.

When I don't use the winch stands the ultimax will usually only go to the middle position anyway, which is just about low enough to reach. If i can get it to the highest, then I can just stand on my amp rack, which is 6U and on wheels so easy to position.

Me also, I'm a sub man. (some say:D )
If I'm using the goalpost then I'll have the bins with me. I lay them out end to end and can walk along and reach each end of the rig:cool: (3m ish)

However, I also use a wired t-bar with 8 pinspots which is about 9 feet above the ground, and I therefore need to stand on a chair to adjust the angle.

I've never fallen off the chair yet, though

Thanks for that one.....spoke to the guys there and now got one on the way.....checked out similar on e-bay and this one def looks the sturdiest and most practical!
