Hi there.

Has anyone had problems with tweeters? I purchased a pair of Audio Intimidation INT215's and although I'v used them for around 4hrs, the tweeters need replacing. I'v been in touch with several suppliers each quoting different prices.

Question is, do I have to buy an Audio Intimidation tweeter or can I use any make of tweeter that will fit perfectly into the slot of the speaker? Maybe if I go with another make of tweeter, might be better quality than the Audio Intimidation range?

Does anyone use Audio Intimidation? Had any good or bad experiences with them?

If I understand correctly, it uses 1" compression drivers for the top, so you can fit any driver with a 1" thread/throat. I am surprised to hear they have failed so soon. You could do worse than ring these lads, they may have some knowledge of the components inside, and they will sell replacements. They are really helpful, just tell them your problem, and I'm sure they will try to help.

I take it your not clipping your amp when your useing them? because this would cause damage to your horns before anything else!
that aside if you not overpowering it could just be the componant's are not up to the job,
you could try using a diffirent compression driver but you would prob.. have to change the crossover to match it.

do you know what type of compression driver is fitted to the speakers? i.e has anything writern on the back of it like make of model?

and you can't just use any 1" driver on it, it has the be the right spec!

I agree with Colin, while it will be possible to fit any tweeter and get a sound out of it, if its not of the right spec it could either over or under emphasize the highs. It also needs to be of the correct handling power.

I see that the speakers are claimed to be 500w RMS, what amplifier are you using with them?

If they are new, I would contact the supplier as they shouldn't go wrong after being used for such a short time.

I dont have a crossover. I basically have leads running from my 1200w RMS PSS amp.

Yeah I'll contact them now, I just think it might of been a fault in those particular tweeters, might be quality of the components.

No, the amp is definetly not clipping, the volume controls on the amp is set at 9pm so the amp is hardly working! I dont think these speakers are fitted with a compression tweeter, I could be wrong but I think they are standard tweeters.

Bit unlikely they are going to last long without proper filtering by crossover---or alternatively you wont get a proper top end sound because the drivers wont go to a high enough frequency. :bang:

Had this problem with original Skytecs---stop laughing back there--the "high frequency" horn had no filter and didnt produce real HF sound.

Simply fitted a Maplins Driver for a tenner and a filter---miles better sound and the drivers last for years.

I only use this set up for small gigs--but its not too bad.

Sorry im a bit puzzled i take it these tweeters are part of a full range cab if that is the case they must have a x over or some sort of resistor in the cab to protect them can you tell us more about the speaker set up in general and i am pretty sure the problem lies in failed or non exsisting protection and you have fried the coil.

Apologies there, I am often guilty of assuming certain things go without saying, like the replacement driver would have to be of similar characteristics. :o

According to what I have read, all adverts say :-
15" bass cones and compression horn tweeter provide great bass response but with a clear sound, perfect for mobile dj systems & karaoke, club applications.

500 watts rms per speaker (1000 watts peak)


The intimidation int215s complete the very dependable and solid speaker range from intimidation. With two massive 15" bass cones and compression horn tweeter they provide a huge bass response but with a full and clear sound, perfect for mobile dj systems.

So compression it is. There should be an internal crossover fitted, ( ie inside the cab, not visible until you open it up). If they are under warranty, see what your supplier says. According to some ( and not others) your amp is a good match for your speakers, but DON'T RUN YOUR MIXER INTO THE RED, as this can have the same damaging effect, even if the amp isn't running at full throttle.

Pleae confirm that it's the PSS 1200, as the PSS2400 could be called a 1200w amp. as it's 1200w PER SIDE!
PSS1200 gives 600w per side at the 4ohms of your cabs, so should be OK if you don't wind the volume up too far.

Yes, I can confirm that my amp is the 1200 model - 600 watts RMS each side.

The amp is hardly doing any work as the rotory volume controls are around the 9pm position. I will however be watching out for the level of the output via the mixer.

What I intend to do is purchase 2 more tweeters and see what happens. It can either be down to the tweeters with a manufacturing error, but then again it could be the quality of the components, afterall I paid just 250 pounds for these speakers, brand new.

Is there any one that uses these Audio Intimidation INT215 speakers? I personally think they are a new company on the scene, could be wrong.

if I were you I would contact the supplier that you bought them from £250 or £2000 they should still do what it says in there spec and should be covered under the warranty.

Agreed, but I feel we have suggested this before, posts 4, 5, and 14. Good advice also in others re protection.
