Is anyone with/have experience of the Orange livebox? I appear to have just signed up to save lots of money, and am now wondering if there are reliability issues with said box? What are experiences, if any? Thanks in advance.

Used to be Wanadoo: they was fine but then they went over to Orange and thats when the problems started. Not one bit helpfull on the phone and the server does go quite slow every now and then.

Iv used AOL for many years now and only had the odd minor problem that was quickly fixed. The downside to AOL is that when you contact customer support on the phone, your talking to foreign people and sometimes really hard understanding them :(

Overall, AOL has my approval and are really good on the whole.

Mendoza.

The Live box itself is fine, not bad bit of kit, althought the Secruity isnt that good, just using a WPA key I think, not a computer id as well, but overall its not bad for free.

The trouble itself is with Orange, with countless interuptions to there service, since the Launch of the 5 quid a month deal when on 35 or more a month? there Exchanges cant handle the volume of Traffic or damand. But they are contatnly making upgrades, and some of the outages are due to this.but like alot of things the outages are exaggerated, i have them at work, and the outages have never lasted more than half a day, during the week so for the cheap deal i think its fine. If your on the Cheap deal stick with them they will come good, well in my humble opion that is.

With Virgin at home thou, never had any trouble with the service and a tenner a month cant go wrong. I do use Linkeys wireless thou.

My mate had Orange Broadband, and couldn't get rid of it quick enough, The wireless never worked, it was just terrible.

I'm with Sky, had a few problems when BT were updating the exchange, but no problems since.

Iv'e heard that sky are doing really well. I'm thinking of changing over to sky from AOL (AOL are really good) I only want to change is because of the Sky see speak and surf package. :)

I wouldn't have thought you were old enough to have a contract with AOL or SKY

I use BT....not bad....could be better......we use it because we get a good discount....and the MD works for them....:)
So in answer to your question...i've no idea about orange......good luck..:D

Found this on another forum, and it adds to my suspicions that a lot of broadband providers are 'at it', so to speak.

"On Monday night The gadget show, shown on channel five ,started a campaign to force the broadband providers to provide their customers with the service they are charging for.

Think you're getting a great broadband deal? Think again. With many people falling short of the "up to" speeds offered by their ISP, we're campaigning for the truth: advertised speeds reflecting what we're actually getting.

Join us- test your speed here and let us know what you think below:

http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/speed_test.htm

I've always known I wasn't getting the full 8 Megs I've been paying for, the top speed is governed by the type of phone line, cable and how far you are from the exchange, but I'm gobsmacked

Download Speed: 1330 kbps (166.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 222 kbps (27.8 KB/sec transfer rate

What a rip-off.

Any company can only pull the wool over their paying customers eyes for so long.

The company that gives its customers outstanding value for money will be the one making the most profit, once all the rip-off companies have been forced out of business.

Like many internet companies, providing home Broadband is relatively new in the UK, with new ones popping up all the time. If a company thinks it can continuously treat its customers with no respect and give substandard customer service, it's very wrong, it won't be in business long. Most of the trouble is greed, after paying all the out-goings ,which obviously there are loads, premises, wages of the employees, tax etc etc etc….. the customers monthly subscriptions aren't for the company directors to go and sun their selves on some exotic isle, for months on end.

The enormous profit that's left over must be ploughed back into the company, to give the customer a better deal than the "next" company will give.

In a nut shell, any company that takes the :Censored: out of the people that pay their wages won't be in business long and the company name will be remember as a joke."

Beerfunk, where we live Broadband was not possible, due to the cable run for ages. We are actually on just over 1/2 Meg, still faster than dial up.!!

It depends what you use it for really, 512kbps is more than enough for regular browsing, email and what have you. In fact, it's enough for gaming too, and should be OK for sites like Youtube. The most important factors to me are latency and reliability.
