Pioneer DJM400 Mixer/Mixer advice

Hi all ive been looking at the DJM400 Which looks quite good especially with the built in sample/effects However it doesnt have "kill switches" of such but the eq does go down to full kill but i do like kill switches when there used right can make for some good mixing.

Also its only 2 channel haveing come from the relm of bedroom djing this was fine but now i am planning on using An Comp feed as well do you think a 3 channel might make it better so i can have one just for the comp instead of switching the inputs.

Because i am used to mainly mixing dance music/beat matching this mixer seems really good but is it ok for DISCO music as theres never that much dance music on at the functions, so would a more basic Mixer do the job of non dance music mixing with ease.

Some of the DJs we have had in have had a very simple mixer 2 channel with A small crossfader, no crossfader curve control or eq control hence a bit confussed on what mixer specs i am after.

As Allways your advice is very much appreciated.

Taken in context with your other post looking at computer based playout, you might want to consider a mixer such as the Numark CM200USB.

There are five stereo channels, one dedicated mic channel, and one master control.

Ch 1 & 2 can be phono or line level inputs (turntables or CD/whatever)
Ch 3 & 4 can be line or USB inputs avoiding the need for external soundcards or dodgy sounding headphone socket connections
Ch 5 is line or Mic - so you can add a second mic

And all channels including mic have independent gain and 3 EQ.

Outputs are balanced or unbalanced over two zones - so you can have different volume levels of the same output signal feeding two amps.

The best bit is it's 19" rack mountable and costs under £180. I've had one on the road for 3 years now and it's as good as new. Well nearly ;)

Mine is wired up as:

Mic channel - wired mic
Ch 1 - deck 1 of my Numark d2
Ch 2 - deck 2 of my Numark d2
Ch 3 - USB from my music playout laptop
Ch 4 - USB from my video playout laptop (for pop video playback)
Ch 5 - radio mic

Ch 4's 'line' input is wired to an emergency cable into which I can plug an mp3 player or CD player. Line/USB is a flick of a switch on the front panel of the mixer. Ch 3 has the same ability but I don't use it.

Output zone 1 - Main amp with loopthrough to backup or second amp (for odd occasions when I use 2 sets of tops)

Output zone 2 - Powered sub(s)

Will have look at that mixer sounds good, especially with the dedicated usb Channels.

Also been looking at the Behringer DDM4000 which is jammed pack like the pioneer but is 4 channel so i could still have dedicated comp channel but not usb thou. I think it is alot better for the money than the pioneer as well.

These alot better than the old Citronic MSK 2 mixer i have.

But still will i need all this for none dance music?

There is 1 almighty mixer that is jam packed full of very useful features, that's the Behringer UB1204 FX PRO. It features 8 stereo channels, 4 XLR/line mic inputs, 99 FX engine (Reverbs, echo's, flangers etc) the list goes on. Each channel has an independent 3 band EQ with a big EQ range of +-15db. The only downsides to this mixer is that it doesn't feature USB ins or outs nor kill switches but at -15db, there's virtually no bass at all and maybe if you up the mid or treble then this might mask out the bass even more.

These mixers are very sturdy and works great in busy situations. I can't fault Behringer, you certainly get allot of :bang: for your buck :)
