Hi guys and gals

I have been meaning to ask this for a while its probably a really simple question to answer for those in the know ...

during my robocolor escapade i noticed that they take enh 120v 250w lamps , most of my other units take elc 24v 250w lamps , both look similar but ....

is there a difference in brightness with these lamps if not why so many different types??

enh 250w
elc 250w
m33 250w

just been bugging me for a while?? surely a standard lamp would be easier for all??

Being someone also with both.......... There's very little difference, except the 120v blow quicker:( There are reasons for this though.

There will be a difference in brightness of sorts between the reflector type and capsule type, but that is then dependant on the reflector (or lack of) used in the unit with a capsule lamp.
The reflector type are bound to seem brighter as the reflector is quite efficent at getting the light out the front. Whereas with a capsule, there is bound to be some leakage, unless the unit's reflector is close to the lamp and very efficent, i.e. made of decent reflective material.

Hope that helps clear the mud a little:D

It would, however...
Take a Robocolour, it sends the light straight out through a gobo and colour to the lense, so a reflector type lamp is ideal, as it is most efficient at send light out front.
However a ministar (or twister type moonflower) reflects light back from a mirror behind the lamp then out through the lense, so a capsule is used 'cause a bigger lamp would be in the way and cause a dark spot.
Although I think many designs use an offset reflector lamp now to make them more efficient.
