Lighting Plan

Ok me again and this time i really dont have any idea.... Please be pataint and kind.

heres my plan. (all fixed are permenant fittings.)
Dont laugh too hard i was never any good at graphic design :p


1= ACME Dynamo Scans 4 Head Pack £319.00
2= Acme Duet Twin Effect £105 each
3= ACME LED BOOGIE DUAL LED MOONFLOWER LIGHTING EFFECt £69 each
4= Mushroom Light (just for rear fill really) £70 for 2
5= Purelight Tri-Beam Laser 260mW £239

Also a mirror ball and white spot light for the romantic dances ect.

Most people stay near the front to dance hence i am leaveing the back of the floor not as covered by the lights as the front, but just some mushroom for fill.

Will run the lights off a power controllar, exsept for the scanners of course, does anyone know if it will be worth gettin g a dmx controllar for the scanners or is the one it comes with good enough.

I wont run them all at once like, but what do you think? Please be kind but as allways your comments suggestiona nd advice is greatly appreicated.

Just the Lights and CD decks to finalise and will post a Overall Design post.

Will need a controler for those dynamos really. The ca-8 is fine if its all fast music but anything else seems a little to fast. Also might want to think about orientation of lights for the sake of bar staff.

Was aiming to have the rear Mushrooms facing the centre of the dance floor near faceing away from bar but yeah thinking about it the others will be hitting the bar as well.

Problem you'll find with the mushrooms is they (typically) have a low duty cycle - I've seen ones that are 15 minutes on with 15 minutes cooldown :eek:

You might be better served by swapping two boogies for one impossibled (MUCH more impressive effect) and swapping the mushrooms for a pair of NJD datamoons or similar. Overall budget may go up slightly but you'll at least be able to turn the lights on all night and not worry about things going pop!

Disagree. It's fine for most music except slowies, but then the dynamo's aren't the smoothest effect when slowed down - quite jerky in fact.

Also at the Boogie, will one impossibled light be enough you think?

If i make those changes will it ok like?

One impossibled in the middle of the 4 dynamos or in the opposite position to your laser will fill even a large-ish floor.

Yep. It has about a dozen programs, just choose one you like and let it rip!

Thanks, I think DMX Will is having a look for me at the plan and what i could get for the money, There is certianly alot of options and styles out there, just need help picking the right one.

My head feels like its spinning some times with all the info you guys have given me in the last 2 weeks.

Ok, What I would suggest is (and this is a very rough suggestion - hopefully other members will build on my ideas and advise you more, as I'm afraid time isn't on my side these days).

Anyway...

I'd suggest you aim to downlight/uplight the side walls using LED par cans (or other LED wash lights - there are loads to look at out there).

Maybe do something special such as cross beam some LED par cans (or the alternative you've chosen) behind the DJ just to add a bit of a background and some interest.

Then for your actual disco lighting 6 effects max. Two moonflowers then maybe 2, maybe 4 scanners/barell effect lights (something along the lines of the Acme Rover/Winner would do the job nicely.

Depdning on where we are with the budget right now, you could also add 4 - 8 led pars above the dance floor to colour it nicely. I would recommend you have all these LED fixtures controlled via DMX (Stairville DMX Master would do nicely).

If you're going for the mirror ball effect i would have the motor/light for it on a dimmer pack/switcher so you can integrate it with your par cans.

Sorry this is all the help I can give right now, I'll try and chuck things in when conversation gets started.

If you're walls have trunking, or random other things poking out of the walls (or cables tacked to the walls) I'd scrap the entire LED uplighting/downlighting idea as it'll look pants!. You'll also need to dust/de-cob web frequently otherwise you're venue won't look the dogs!

i personally wouldn't have thought beams would be a problem.. infact you could even use them as a 'feature'.
I think Will probably meant things that were randomly sticking out like half way up a wall.. that would affect the light on the 'other' side of the object... so the wall lighting wasn't really continous and a bit bitty. That is my understand of what he said anyway.

Personally I would have the two moonflowers coming from the DJs angle, and the remaing scanners above the middle of the dance floor.

Up or downlighting, it doesn't matter it would need to be decided by the person having to install all the cables tbh.
