Ive had a disaster.....


first of all ....... doorbell rings yay!!! my 2 new impossibleds are here .... set them up just as i finish plugging in the second the phone goes .....

2 cancellations for December ........... yep you guessed it

new years eve and christmas eve .... was booked in a pub that has apparently gone bust

to be honest not entirely sure as only had them up in the living room the spread can be measured in acres though! anyone know how to slow them down a bit?? look good when just on with no music but with music go a bit mad?

I had one impossibled, a pair of dynarolls and a couple of lasers lighting up a 12m x 10m dancefloor perfectly well last week, so pair should fill Wembley if you don't overlap them!

I tried to find this too for ours, but sadly there doesn't seem to be any way of slowing the chase speeds down/adjusting sensitivity other than full DMX (which I haven't tried cos no DMX) - It really could do with this. On the plus side, when used in a decent sized hall with other lights, the franticness (sp??) of some of the patterns isn't as in your face as when you test them at home!! Still an ace light tho'

There is kind of a way Dave. There are 100s if not 1000s of programmes and you'll notice that some are faster than others. There are quite a few that are slower and more mellow. I used a CA-8 with mine last week and found that although it doesn't do a lot, you can scroll through the programmes, strobe and black out.

So, when you get a particularly manic programme, just scroll through 'till you find a slower one. That's what I've been doing and it seemed fairly effective.

I've never used an effect light for slowies. It's been either a UV or a subtle wash for me.

I reckon at least half a dozen regulars have now had their new year's eve gig cancelled this year.

I think as an industry we still have a long way to go to becoming more professional in our dealings with clients and as a result a lot of venues and people don't take us seriously and feel that we are push overs and can cancel at the drop of a hat. (This is the short version anyway!)

Now I don't wish to denigrate it, because I'm in favour of it, but let's set this hare running. Is it a result of the smoking ban? I have no real evidence to suggest this, but one or two folk have mentioned it having a detrimental effect to some places. :confused: :confused:

Think you will find the smoking ban has an element of what is happening, as well as the new going out is to not go out, as well as money belts are tightening due to rising costs of everything all over the field you may purchase.

Even beer sales are down by 7m pints a day according to industry figures so something is feeling the pinch and we are feeling the effect of this

There is also the delayed effect of the interest rate rises on mortgage payments & the fact that borrowing (& therefore interest payments) are at an all time high.

Just as I read about The Dragonfly catastrophe on this forum, yes, you've guesed it - the phone rang and a very apologetic ex-licensee explained that his pub had also gone down the tubes and that he wished to cancel the Xmas Eve booking. Perhaps trade is not so good after all around here.

I would appreciate a call from anybody offering work in the East Midlands.

The smokeing ban has made no difference what so ever to me, bookings are better than ever and this year has been my busiest yet. This is my busiest christmas I have ever had, I'm out every Friday & Saturday, most sundays some thursdays and one wednesday.

I think the someking ban could effect our trade, but think it also depends on the type of venues you work in. I.E. Working mens clubs may see a drop off, but more upmarket hotels not so much of a problem.

And at the risk of inviting disaster, even though one of my residencies is very thin this year, work is coming in from everywhere else and I apear to be busier than normal. One reassuring thing is that all bookings are confirmed, rather than the usual venues making blanket bookings, and then cancelling the ones they haven't sold enough tickets for.

S'OK - they rebooked for the 16th. Didn't want to share the venue with some rowdy works party.

Don't do that many Sunday gigs this time of year so will be a nice change from the pap that is pre-Xmas weekend TV :o
