Didn't you have a disco naame before which you was using?
Just get a name and stick to it... Once you have logos and websites all made up you can't go around changing it... Once you got the name you want just stick with it

My advice would be that if you're considering ever expanding beyond just 'doing discos' then avoid the use of words like "disco" or "roadshow" in your name. If you ever think you might move the business or expand outside your geographical area, don't tie the name to a place either :p

I thought long and hard about 'VectisVibe' but chose it because all the local "competitors" (notice the "'s ;) ) are XYZ Discos etc. and I think (and have had it confirmed by many customers) it's a catchy, meaningful and contemporary-sounding name for a mobile disco.

I know I broke the 'geography' rule but I'm kinda restricted on that front by the Solent; and if I did expand I could always reuse the 'Vibe' suffix.

Notice how this conclusion was also reached by the likes of Corabar, Solitaire etc. ;)

Excellent advice.

When I started doing discos, I was Rob James Discotheques (for obvious reasons!) as I never thought things would change.

However, a friend got me into doing quiz nights as well, so my business name was no longer appropriate. I therefore changed it to Rob James Entertainment. This was a real pain & also cost me several hundred pounds.

Come up with an appropriate name in the first place, and never change it unless it's absolutely essential to do so, as it was with me.

Whoaaaa...I haven't heard that song for yonks, Darren, but it's one I remember well, as I really liked it at the time. I'd guess it was from roughly 1984.

Howcome? It should only really cost you money if you are a limited company and have to change your trading name. Otherwise it is a very simple job and shouldn't cost hardly anything.

Don't forget the cost of any customer confusion associated with a minor change or the potential loss of repeat customers associated with a major change.

Choosing a brand name (as that is what it is) is never easy and ideally you want it to suit what only you do now but also what you may want to do in the future.

Look to your market, where and what are your target customers? Where do you see yourself and your business in say 5 and also 10 years? Can you think of a name that would suit that and you will be happy with in the future.

Also try to think of something original and unique, this will pay off when you have your own website and you want people to google it. Groovy Nights Disco may seem good at the time, but google it and see how many of them there are.

I thought quite hard about my business name and eventually settled on 'Vibrant Sounds' as it can be utilised in a few different ways offering me options for the future, but also being reasonably unique and I am now number one and two when googled

But an important comment and one that I agree with, I was wetting myself when he said it as there was a 'Groovy Nights Disco' DJ sat in front of me.

I do think it is worth taking the time to find omething unique though, as it may be with you a long time.
