Last Nights Party

What a farce I had, kids kicking balloons round the stage, on the stage, no matter how many times we said not to do it, they still done it, it kept people off the dance floor most of the night.

Turned the lights on halfway through for the food to be eaten which killed it anyway, as soon as people had eaten their food, they went home! :bang:

Some of the guests coming upto me asking for the music to be turned down as there were people that they hadn't seen for years and wanted to talk!!!!!! :mad:

I just felt like saying, don't waste your money on a disco, just put a cd player on.

Bearing in mind the "party" didn't start until 8:30 when the person who's party it was turned up and music had to off by 11:30 it really made me think "whats the point!" :bang: :bang: :bang:

I feel sorry for you know how you feel I'm sure that we have all had some experience of this type of event before.Nothing worse than the parents letting the kids do what they want(running around bursting baloonsect),whilst they sit down and see this happening but don't bother.This type of event really tests our patience!

You get the odd one like this from time to time... part and parcel of the whole 'mobile dj' lark I'm afraid.... occasionally bumping into a crowd that didn't come for the disco. They either came to chat or out of a sense of obligation, hence the fact they probably had one drink, scoffed the buffet and made their excuses.


Slightly OT...

I agreed to do four discos this year for a boating club near me. In chatting with the organiser he told me they're a very difficult and unpredictable lot and they'd sacked the previous DJ because he didn't try to gee up the crowd a bit, and just played free CDs off Sunday newspapers!!

First night was great - loads of people up dancing, stacks of requests, perfect.

The second night was a few months later - 80% of the crowd were the same faces but not one single dancer all night! I tried the same sorts of music as previously, different stuff, calling for requests... nothing! By 11:00 the place was empty. I felt gutted and spoke to the organiser, he says 'well I told you they were unpredictable - you did a good job see you next time' :confused:

Third night, same faces, same reaction. I tried request cards, got a few back for totally inappropriate stuff - sex pistols and 'lady in red' :Watusi: - eventually played them - got a few folks tapping toes, nothing more. Same again, 11:00 all gone. Pats on the back from the organiser!!

Fourth night, got prior warning 'this one's gonna be hit & miss'. Sure was. Everyone gone by 10:30!! :eek:

Spoke to the organiser (and the committee) and suggested a few ideas for livening them up - like a quiz, theme night... "no, we're quite happy with what you're doing - you're the best DJ we've had here in 20 years and we want you back next year" :confused: :confused: :confused:

It's easy work, local, small rig, reasonable pay, but I have to admit I'm seriously considering turning them down.... what do you guys think?

If you have nothing better to do on the same day then go with it. There is one residency that I do that I really aint all that keen on and I don't enjoy it that much but the organisers are exactly the same and think I'm great. The money is good too so that's why I do it. The majority of the audience are kids aged from 4 to 11 and it's a mainly family thing so all of the kids dance all night, it's a shame the adults (mostly around my age) sit there as if it's torture but I do it.
