Martin robocolours or LED Par 64s

What are the pro's and cons.

Obviously the colour pallet is more varied on the cans, but for regular discos and situations like lighting bands what would you go for?

How do prices differ? (second hand in particular)

Just thought it might be an interesting subject to bring up, haviong seen some LED cans last night.

For lighting bands from the front, Robocolours. For effect from behind band, LEDs.

led pars ...... martin robocolors are excellent lights ....... when they work.

Led pars, no moving parts and a lot more reliable. ( so far anyway)

Is the 'Not working' bit an issue?

My logic is that by the time i get anywhere near lighting bands, i will have some dynamos or leos or something like that, which i can hang on a gantry behind them. Hence would use these to light up the front of the band.

mine although second hand broke down twice in 2 weeks , and i think those in the know will admit , when they work they are superb when they go wrong ..... total and utter nightmares and a downward spiral.

Can you get wash lenses for the Robocolours? If not, then Pars are definatley the way to go as you'll get a much better coverage on the dancefloor. They won't be quite as bright as the robo colours, but then I think a subtle wash looks better.

What about other colour changers, like the acme ones, etc.

i paid £160 for a set of robocolors second hand my new colour changers were £90 each or a couple of quid more and mojo colours.

Led par cans in my opinion are not up to the task of lighting bands or such like on any decent size stage unless you pay big money for 3 to 5 watt leds ,plenty of powerful dmx colour changers out there , as for robos the later versions are more reliable.
